Without naming her client, Bella did ruminate in a recent interview on the contained backlash she received this year about her new role as the Swarovski ambassador.
Bella’s pro-Palestinian, perceived as anti-Israeli posts on IG, created pushback by some Israeli jewelry stores and dealers against Swarovski.
Last week, Bella Hadid did not specifically call out Kanye West, but she noted on Instagram that it would be a “disservice” to herself and her loved ones if she did not “speak up.” She went on to specifically condemn antisemitism and the “things” that have been shared about it recently on “public platforms”.
“To allow any form of antisemitism to slip by, as desensitized as the world has become, it would be a disservice to my friends, the families I have grown up with, the people I love and work with, myself, and even the Palestinian cause as a whole,” she wrote.
She then emphasised that her Palestinian community does not stand for “hatred or violence,” adding that anti-Semitic social media posts “will never be okay”.
American poet, activist, Prada ambassador and UNICEF supporter Amanda Gorman; Dutch-Korean-Canadian singer, rapper and dancer Jeon Somi; and American actor and model Maya Hawke, daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke star in Prada’s 2022 launch of Eternal Gold, representing the luxury brand’s first forray into fine jewelry.
In addition to being made from certified recycled gold, every piece of jewelry in the collection will be fully traceable, thanks to blockchain technology. Every purchase will be traceable by logging into the Aura Blockchain Consortium.
The Prada Eternal Gold collection is very modern a 100 percent recycled collection that pushes category boundaries. Amanda Gorman came to Prada’s attention, not because of her 2021 Inaugural Poem, but because of her environmental activism.
This fashion story ‘Earth Angels’ from More or Less Magazine [IG] adds a fabulous new twist to the VS Angels saga. If you don’t know, the magazine is devoted to sustainability and our living with less. More or Less wrote:
Hallelujah! For our final cover, we assembled an all-star cast of Earth Angels, styling nine ex-Victoria's Secret models in faux-fashion label Kezako’s upcycled underwear made from aluminium wrap, dried-out loaves of bread, old newspapers, cuddly toys and then some.
We are looking at creativity on steroids here and a brilliant way to call attention to sustainability.
Models include Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Elsa Hosk, Lais Ribeiro, Leomie Anderson, Lily Aldridge, Martha Hunt, Sara Sampaio and Stella Maxwell.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have done more to educate the world about fancy diamonds than any two people alive.
Neither of their engagement rings was purchased at Astteria, headquartered in London, but they could have been.
Perhaps it’s because I devoted 30 minutes listening to Mr. Hadary’s podcast with Paul Zimnisky [scroll to bottom of page] that I have a sense of his personality.
He is absolutely an ambitious, very intelligent, savvy businessman. But there is also a warmth to his personality that inspires engagement and trust. He’s a human you want to know — an asset to the planet.
A breeze is blowing through fashion collections and marketing as humans adjust to pre-pandemic life. Not that reality is faraway, mind you, or that a decade of streetwear’s dominance is over.
Coincidentally, posting images of the just launched on September 15 Polo Originals collection by Ralph Lauren comes on the heels of sharing incredibly-glamorous images of the spring 2023 glamorous Schiaparelli collection.
I can imagine critics calling the Ralph Lauren Polo Originals campaign a celebration of robber baron wealth. Photographer Richard Phibbs [IG] made harmonious artistry out of these images starring Hamid Onifade, Hugh Laughton-Scott, Kit Butler, Rishi Robin.
To me, I see a modern, honoring nod to traditions and classics — to wellmade clothes that are designed to last.
Totally intrigued with fabulousness but also wondering just how Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry could keep the magic moving, there is deep appreciation this evening for the Schiaparelli Spring Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection. It is drop-dead distinctive, arty sophistication fit for alluring, drama-loving, statement-making women with confidence, super smarts and backbone.
Did we say timeless without being boring? Surreally understated? A celebration of the human form?
“The past three years we’ve been building this reputation, this language through the couture and the red carpet,” the designer said about his time at Schiaparelli. “The next three will be about building the business side of it too.”
Riccardo Tisci’s departure from Burberry is not unexpected — and none of the rumblings questions around Tisci’s design talent of vision. The question involved much more the continuation of his edgy and goth aesthetic at Burberry — the look that brought him great notoriety and success at Givenchy.
Most creatives and fashion writers don’t engage themselves in a brand’s financial performance. Loving a collection is all that counts. Choosing words that should not be misconstrued by readers, Vogue’s Sarah Mower queried the strategic wisdom of Tisci’s “border-free, non-nationalistic points of view.”
When AOC looked at financial performance under Tisci’s Burberry, clearly the brand basically treaded water. For every new Burberry customer, the luxury brand lost an existing one.
VS Pink CEO Amy Hauk says that neither the Hulu three-episode docuseries ‘Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons’ nor the summer song by JAX that spent several weeks in the top 100 contributed to the plunge in second-quarter profits. The song was created as a statement about the need for body positivity in the world of Victoria’s Secret’s negative influence on young women’s bodies at the hands of an old man [men].
I refuse to believe that Hauk embraces the “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” adage. That was Epstein’s and Ed Razek’s mantra — and never mine.
To all the gloriously inspiring women who are appearing in the new Skims September 27 Bra Launch [IG] campaign, lensed by artist [IG] and fashion photographer Vanessa Beecroft [IG], Anne of Carversville salutes your decision.
To broadcast far and wide your beautiful moxie, AOC is leading with your images before we post the accompanying models’ campaign.
INDEED, Dawn, Jamari’a, Kamilah, Rebecca, Susan, Wondrea YOU LEAD on our website and social media Skims News today. Very special love to Rebecca, who is a breast cancer survivor.
Master photographer Nick Knight [IG] is behind the lens, capturing both still images and video for the Givenchy FW 2022 campaign, jointly conceived with Creative Director Matthew M. Williams.
The campaign is absolutely ready for big awards.
Top models Liya Kebede and Vittoria Ceretti are joined by musician Ethel Cain and rapper Playboi Carti in images inspired by literature and imbued with a surreal undercurrent.
“The faces in this season’s campaign really represent what Givenchy means today,” said Williams. “It’s a uniquely eclectic group: each model is an icon in their own right”
Photographer Théo de Gueltzl[IG] creates exquisite images for Hermès in a an intimate, nature-bound fashion story called ‘Photosynthesis’. Imruh Asha [IG] — who is also working with Pucci — styles models Awar Odhiang and Felice Noordhoff.
The images from ‘Photosynthesis’ are included in Le Monde Hermes n°81, Maybe’s second issue conceived as a collection of notes, photographs and illustrations exploring the theme of lightness.
I love the images — which are absolute Hermès perfection — but within the context of Le Monde Hermes, the vibe is younger, more vibrant and casual. Fabulous!
Models Adwoa Aboah, Lina Zhang and Beyoncé Ambrose headline the Chloé FW2022 campaign, styled by Camilla Nickerson. Zoe Ghertner [IG] captures the campaign images.
Gabriela Hearst — unlike McCartney — is committed to using leather in her clothes because her supplier is credentialed by the EU and the leather is sourced from meat industry by-products.
Chloé used only recycled cashmere in her knitted sweaters and skirts. The barren ground on which the models are standing in these images is referencing this concept of overgrazing and a total depletion of the soil.
Adut Akech, Amanda Murphy, Andreea Diaconu, Lina Zhang and Nora Attal power their way through the streets of Manhattan with positive spirits and strong backbones in the Tory Burch Fall 2022 campaign..
Not only does Tory Burch design for the total woman, but she is one with a strong sense of civic responsibility and community involvement. In all honesty, the world doesn’t need another uber-successful young woman looking for her own truth, while having a weep-fest on Instagram.
“Oh, Anne,” you say. “Our young women are just looking for their own authenticity.”
I ask you: Do you know that right-wingers just narrowly won the Swedish election on September 14?
The iconic Cartier Panthère is channeled by ambassadors Jisoo of BLACKPINK and actor Ella Balinska in the new Fall 2022 campaign. Her feline fierceness is also on prominent display in Cartier’s New York Fifth Avenue store.
The Cartier New York renovation channels organic parts of the city — its parks — by introducing lush green hues into the space, seen in the furnishings throughout and the carpeting that ascends the grand staircase. “I simply think that green represents vegetation, nature,” designer Laura Gonzalez explained. “Fifth Avenue is very close to Central Park, and I needed to include all these elements in the project to create an oasis, a peaceful beacon in between classicism and the building’s history.”
Supermodel Anja Rubik and Ludwig Wilsdorff are the co-stars of Boucheron’s new “Icons” campaign, lensed by David Sims. Both Rubik and Wilsdorff have also become ambassadors for the house.
To have the women leaders of Boucheron celebrate Anja’s bold character on progressive human rights as one that articulates their own brand platform for this iconic high jewelry brand means everything to those of us on the front line of these battles.
It’s good business because every day more women — including wealthy women — understand that we are in the fight of our lives.
Billie Eilish becomes a femme fatale driving the winding roads of the Hollywood Hills for Gucci Eyewear. Billie puts her foot on the gas, encountering her twin car in pink coming close to her.
Is Billie in danger? We’re on pins and needles with faux fear. Harley Weir [IG] directs the film, with art direction by Lina Kutsovskaya. And, of course, Gucci’s Alessandro Michele is always the conductor of the ensemble.
Over the course of my life, there are perhaps 7-10 dreams that have rocked my world.
I don’t honestly believe that Beyoncé, Tiffany & Co, Alessandro Michele, Gucci, Billie Eilish and Anne Enke are travelling on the same moonbeam — but one never knows.
Polo Ralph Lauren shares its Fall 2022 campaign with models Devi Rae, Mathilda Gvarliani and Najiyah Imani. Ralph Lauren’s Jack Becht is creative director with images by Alasdair McLellan [IG].
The entire Ralph Lauren business is working on ways to communicate its values in our larger society and culture for over a decade.with an acknowledgment that human connections must be part of the Ralph Lauren DNA.
Today Ralph Lauren views itself as a change agent in solving problems and also embracing the complexity of the real American experience and history for different groups of people.
Beyoncé returns to Tiffany & Co, starring in the global luxury brand’s newest campaign, ‘Lose Yourself in Love,’ which is all about “celebrating individuality, love, and universal connection.” The campaign is “a fiercely elegant homage to the joy of being one’s unapologetic self.”
Beyoncé is “honored to explore even deeper how beautiful our connections are, when we truly celebrate the relationship and importance of love that we have for ourselves as individuals.” This form of self-love — so often ridiculed as being selfish and self-obsessed — is key to forming thriving relationships with other people.
In the campaign marketing text, Graff made a word salad describing Night Moon, Graff Gateway and New Dawn groups in the collection in this way:
“From a poetic spark of inspiration to a magnificent collection of jewels that speak to the soul about the eternal beauty of nature, the Tribal collection captures the essence of what it is to be human.”
These words perhaps better describe modern life in South Africa’s Atlantis Dunes, where extreme adventure sports including sandboarding define the landscape. Had Graff wanted to speak to the Tribal collection’s capturing the essence of what it is to be human”, the campaign would have been shot 15 hours away by car in at the Sterkfontein Caves, at a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the Cradle of Humankind.
Luxury house Balenciaga shares its Winter 2022 campaign with Kim Kardashian making a major impression as the lady in a blue dress, joined by Euphoria actor Alexa Demie, rapper Big Matthew and model Khadim Sock for Demna’s winter collection.
Odesa, the beautiful city in southern Ukraine, was Demna’s displaced family’s first place of refuge. Yesterday, Ukraine sought UNESCO cultural protection for Odessa. “Russian forces have advanced to within several dozen kilometres (miles) of the city, which blossomed after empress Catherine the Great decreed in the late 18th century that it would be Russia's modern gateway to the Black Sea.” See also the NYT August article Odesa Is Defiant. It’s Also Putin’s Ultimate Target.
