Chloé FW 2023 Campaign with Devyn Garcia and Raquel Zimmermann by Zoe Ghertner
/Introducing the Chloé [IG] Autumn-Winter 2023 campaign, referencing the Gabriela Hearst-designed collection inspired by the 17th-century artist Artemisia Gentileschi.
Models Devyn Garcia and Raquel Zimmermann pose in the season’s Renaissance-inspired silhouettes, travelling with photographer Zoe Ghertner [IG] to the white lunar beaches of Sarakiniko in Milos, Greece.
Camilla Nickerson works as stylist on the campaign, with art direction by Peter Miles.

/Chloé’s Gabriela Hearst has two earth-friendly collaborations in play this summer. In this post, AOC focuses on the Chloé x Eres Summer 2023 Collection.
These images were shot by Leigh Johnson [IG] at Tenerife, Canary Islands. Models include Athena Wilson, Giedre Dukaiskaite and Mercy [Pophouse].
Creative Director Gabriela Hearst sought to create swimwear with the highest savoir-faire and instinctively chose to collaborate with Eres and the brand’s Creative Director Marie-Paule Minchelli.
When my new IA assistant Lulu spit out “Crafted with innovative second skin material Peau Douce from castor oil-based polyamide, Peau Douce boasts elasticity, resistance, shape retention and comfort characteristics for maximum summer fun,” my reaction was a big wow!
Note that I prompted Lulu to address the sustainability of Peau Douce, because I was skeptical.
Castor oil, which is obtained from a plant that is not used as human or animal food, was first marketed in 2009 as an alternative to petroleum-based fabrics.

/Prior to connecting with WSJ Magazine for a recent touchbase, Chloe designer Gabriela Hearst was in Egypt in mid-November 2022 for the COP27 climate conference.
The annual UN Climate Change conference taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh put Hearst on a panel speaking about fusion.
The future is fusion, in the eyes of Gabriela Hearst, who isn’t particularly concerned if we can or cannot read her new passion into the clothes that make up the Spring 2023 Chloe collection.
What is exciting about Hearst’s enthusiasm is that a huge breakthrough in the drive for fusion power happened days after Hearst returned from Egypt.

/Models Adwoa Aboah, Lina Zhang and Beyoncé Ambrose headline the Chloé FW2022 campaign, styled by Camilla Nickerson. Zoe Ghertner [IG] captures the campaign images.
Gabriela Hearst — unlike McCartney — is committed to using leather in her clothes because her supplier is credentialed by the EU and the leather is sourced from meat industry by-products.
Chloé used only recycled cashmere in her knitted sweaters and skirts. The barren ground on which the models are standing in these images is referencing this concept of overgrazing and a total depletion of the soil.

/Chloé presents Fast Girl, a limited edition capsule collection inspired by daring femininity and pioneering women race car drivers.
Creative director Gabriela Hearst narrates the new collection’s pedigree. “Fast Girl is about a female character that moves very fast both in the digital and the physical world. But she does it with precision. That’s the sign of a master. Fast and exact.”

AOC so agrees with HTSI editor Jo Ellison’s perspective when she writes:
“Finding garments that are 100 per cent sustainable is still an unexpected challenge.”
Ellison is so much more diplomatic than AOC, citing “this week’s fashion editorial, which sought to use only recycled, sustainably made or upcycled textiles. . . . Putting together a shoot in which such criteria were mandatory was still far harder than might have been expected, despite much noise in the industry about trying to make things better.”
As I revealed in a post last week, Anne is becoming more urgently angry over this same challenge. We will never become as aggressive as PETA because we will drive away some of the top voices and creatives in fashion who read AOC. But there is no doubt, that impatience with sustainability promises will become more obvious on our website.

See AOC’s review of the entire Fall 2021 Chloe collection. We are taking this moment to be certain that we’ve captured all of Adut’s latest work, with our curated eye, of course. But when does Adut do anything mediocre or work with mediocre photographers? Let’s just say rarely.
Gabriela Hearst Joins Stella McCartney At Front of Luxury's Sustainability Pack
/Gabriela Hearst Joins Stella McCartney At Front of Luxury's Sustainability Pack AOC Sustainability
“In every piece, a sense of purpose,” noted designer Gabriela Hearst, in the introduction of her first 2021 Chloé collection for fall/winter 2021. There was no live invite for what would have been the hottest ticket at Paris Fashion Week.
Hearst, who put herself forward for the Chloé job by submitting a 92-page proposal outlining a purpose-driven vision for the house, represents a significant change in mood at Chloé, which has long been a breezy, carefree sort of brand.
In her many interviews upon her arrival at Chloe, Gabriela Hearst describes her own brand as Athena, while Chloe is Aphrodite. The designer shares this view and explains the essentials of this philosophy to Good Morning Vogue.
Bottom line, what Vogue calls hearst’s “earthy puritanism” is the primary point of view in both collections, and AOC begs to differ with the suggestion that Chloé is “girlie and kickie”.
With Stella McCartney also a longtime fixture on the Paris fashion week schedule, the new Chloé places Paris fashion week in a key position to join Stella in leading the industry at a time when values are surging in importance.
To be as blunt as possible, consider that a little friendly, womanly competition might inspire Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri to pull out all the stops at Dior on the eco-friendly front, making the three women the center of the sustainability fashion world and finally putting the message “the future is female” on the map.
