Arizona Muse’s Heritage
‘Muse’ remains one of the top environmental activists in the world. Born in Tucson in 1988, Arizona Muse grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her English mother, a therapist; her American father, an art dealer; and her younger brother, now a pro snowboarder.
When beloved photographer Peter Lindbergh photographed Muse in the Mojave Desert, named for the indigenous Mohave people, and located in southeastern California and southwestern Nevada, with small portions extending into Arizona and Utah, he told Vogue: “The way she moves is very different from other runway models.”
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of dreams,” America’s once First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt said. Her tenure as First Lady, from 1933 to 1945, coincided with the Great Depression and World War II, periods that demanded strong leadership and a renewed sense of hope.
The theme of Dreams is central to Harper’s Bazaar España’s [IG] January 2025 issue. Rising Nigerian model Mayowa Adagunduro carries the torch of strong sentiments expressed by Bazaar Spain, in an issue that goes far deeper than best new fashion looks for 2025, based on their introductory commentary.
Bazaar openly embraces words like diversity and inclusion at the very time these themes are under attack in America and elsewhere on the global fashion circuit. In their own sentiments, Bazaar Spain embraces themes of inclusion, positivity and a new and permanent fashion reality as Dreams of their own.
Mateos is planting a flag in this moment, and AOC respects her deeply for doing so. So let me give her an additional boost by sharing additional inspiration from a former First Lady at one of the most troubled times in global history ever.

In June 2024, Prada named Chinese director, actor and comedian Jia Ling, age 42, as its new brand ambassador for women. Jia had become the biggest woman director at the box office in Chinese history with her film ‘Hi Mom’.
Today, Jia Ling covers Vogue China’s [IG] January 2025 issue, lensed by Leslie Zhang [IG] with styling by fashion director Vivienne Sun.
In an astounding factoid, both WWD and Prada reported that this uber-talent lost more than 100 pounds for ‘YOLO’.
For the sixth consecutive year in a row, Moncler Group topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for World and Europe in the "textile, apparel & luxury goods" sector. On the consolidated list of 500 most sustainable businesses across all sectors, Moncler was #3.
Moncler’s top guy Remo Ruffini embraces many historical humanist values besides responsibility to the environment. What we’ve learned about humanism from Brunello Cucinelli surely applies to Ruffini.
What is so impactful is his generous praise of other business leaders, including Bernard Arnault and Ralph Lauren. Business relationships built on trust is a key word in AOC’s analysis. Anne is back in her AI for scholars this moment, looking for alignment between humanism and freemasonry across Europe.
Nature’s grandeur is reimagined in luminous gold for the Dior Cabinet de Curiosités—where magnificent sea creatures reign in brilliant splendor. These breathtaking Holiday 2024 selections from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior Cruise 2025 collection, staged in Scotland, remind us of the depth and breath of the Dior luxury brand experience.
Alice Kirkpatrick [IG] is responsible for the exquisite set design, with images by Agnes Lloyd-Platt [IG].
For all those who criticize Maria Grazia Chiuri and Dior generally for not being clever enough — or bold enough — AOC points out that she has much more in common with Valentino’s Alessandro Michele with this presentation than with Gucci’s streamlined fashion pablum — that new quiet luxury design direction they’re touting.
Dior Marries Nature, Marine Life and Gold
This underwater theme is actually prevalent in Dior’s new Gold House in Bangkok and it’s projected onto a Dior facade in Tokyo. This architectural design trend requires a separate post focus on Dior’s emerging design presence as a marriage of nature and golden opulence, the key word.
Actor Diane Kruger was named Woman of the Year in the style category at the 2024 Harper's Bazaar Espana Women of the Year Awards in Madrid, Spain.

American Vogue’s [IG] December 2024 issue is guest-edited by Marc Jacobs [IG], who turned to his close friend and former protegé Kaia Gerber [IG] as his Marc Jacobs cover girl. Photographer Steven Meisel [IG] captures Gerber, who has spread her career-girl self with unassuming but very wide wings into what Iowa calls a West Coast/East Coat elitist, snob-fest for pseudo intellectuals. For the record, Kaia Gerber is not that person.
A simple example of Gerber’s search of life’s opportunities was her appearance in the i-D Spring 2020 Icons Issue, interviewed by ‘Slave Play’ playwright and now good friend Jeremy O. Harris.
In a six-degrees-of-separation moment, Gerber notes in her Library Science book club interview below of Will Arbery that he is a friend of Jeremy O. Harris, whose ‘Slave Play’ production took London’s West End theatre culture by the throat in the second half of 2024.
Dana Spiotta’s interview ends on a high note, an evening at legendary The Chelsea hotel, with a Library Science [Kaia’s book club] event. One of Gerber’s favorite books is ‘Just Kids’, Patti Smith’s memoir of New York in the early ’70s.
This night the supermodel, actor, activist, and thoughtful human being was hosting readings by authors connected to the legendary Chelsea. One was Alexandra Auder, author of the memoir ‘Don't Call Me Home’.

Burberry’s Urgent ‘Course Correct’
Business press describes the situation at Burberry as ‘urgent’ and so does Burberry’s new CEO Joshua Schulman. The new leader says the brand is undergoing an urgent ‘course correct’, as revenue plummets 22% in the latest six months ending in September 2024 financial reporting to investors.
