The May 2025 issue of Bazaar Italia adds a wonderful phrase in translation with a new twist. It inquires what beauty is for us, beyond a concept reduced to an “orgasm of the ego”.
Rather, this process illuminates the free expression of oneself, which evolves with our person and with the passing of time.
It’s possible — not probable — but possible in the world of fashion, that this focus could take hold not only under the umbrella of humanist thought, but now influenced further by Pope Leo and his beliefs as a member of the Augustinian order.
The Commitment to Educating Oneself: The Good, the Bad and the Indefensible
Augustinians have a deep commitment to the idea that each of us has the opportunity to embark on an inner journey towards understanding and cultivating a deeper relationship with God.
In America, where young white men are the primary drivers of a closer relationship to faith, the focus is regaining control, in my opinion.
There is a much richer vision for young people that is embedded in humanism — as expressed by designer Brunello Cucinelli. Remember that humanism came together in launching the Renaissance with both a secular wing and a religious wing. They were not identical but highly compatible in their views and values.
Last September, New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 opened in a rather surprising location, casually called the East End by New Yorkers.
It was a quintessential Ralph Lauren experience — an ultimate, middle class guy makes good, American experience. They are in short supply these days, but Ralph Lauren should start a young mens academy for today’s young men so impacted by him.
In Virginia, Ralph Is the Man
After the disappointing 2024 presidential election in America, I cast my focus to work with young men in Virginia, who had voted for Trump. The group can be mixed, but it must have young male Trump voters.
For those young men — Latino, Black and White — Ralph Lauren is their hero. A mix of college men and young business owners, they stunned me with their breath of knowledge about marketing. They also know Louis Vuitton inside out, and Pharrell’s role there.
Supermodel Adriana Lima is back in the spotlight — a vivid, hot pink style statement — for Marc Jacobs, who teamed up with the Stephen Sprouse estate.
Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse go way back, all the way back to Jacobs’ years at Louis Vuitton. Their collabs have always rained money.
The new bag is hot and sexy, just perfect for Adriana Lima’s new-bride status. Like Stephen Sprouse X Marc Jacobs [IG] wanting to run another relay, Lima is up for the challenge, too.

Rising model Libby Bennett took the spotlight in Harper’s Bazaar Italia’s ‘Bright Young Things’ N.15 cover story. AOC thought about Bella this week in a comparison with her and Taylor Swift.

Rapidly-rising model Angelina Kendall is styled by Marie-Amélie Sauvé in ‘It’s Time to Up Your Style Game’ — part of a cover message of ‘Big Spring Energy’.
Of course, there is ZERO energy in this fashion story, except from the sporty graphic patterns. This is not a criticism, only an observation.

Read W Magazine for all the vintage Miu Miu fashions and also an interview with Eric Wilson titled “Miuccia Prada Talks 30 Years of Miu Miu, Her Greatest Experiment.”
Mrs. Prada is troubled with the idea of presenting post-pandemic fashion as a form of “escapism or entertainment during difficult times”.
“I really don’t like this idea that ‘Fashion is a dream,’ ” Prada says. “First of all, if I have a dream, I want to achieve it, so it’s an objective or a direction. Something that has a strange beauty of who-knows-what-it-is, I really detest.”
Dutch fashion model Rianne Van Rompaey covers the second 2023 issue of Harper’s Bazaar France, photographed in London by Alasdair McLellan [IG].
Today’s popular culture does not value discretion, but we don’t see an obvious financial price to be paid for models living a lower-profile life.
As long as a model remains respected and popular enough to generate income in media or on the runway — she must create value for her clients, after all — s[he] may enjoy a well-rounded life of experiences and opportunities that most people only dream about. These pros aren’t caught up in the social media hype machine that reduces models earning $20 million a year and more to weep live on IG over the misery of their lives and unfair Instagram comments.
Rianne Van Rompaey has that balance in her life. So do Vittoria Ceretti and Saskia De Brauw. Two Dutch models and an Italian. When one considers that it’s the Americans who weep, this reality begs for more thought. It’s a light bulb moment!!

Ellie Grace Cumming styles Tougaard in edgy, intelligenstsia fashion lensed by Alasdair McLellan [IG]. ‘Pictures From an Institution’ was shot at Magdalen College, Oxford in 2023 for d la Repubblica February 18, 2023.
In 1887, Oscar Wilde became the editor of ‘The Lady’s World’, a high-end, monthly magazine produced by Cassell and Company. Wilde’s short but controversial tenure challenged how magazines narrated women’s lives and roles in society. Fascinating!
