Writing about the Ralph Lauren Pre-Fall 2025 Campaign in early July, I noted that the Ralph Lauren name — and especially Polo Ralph Lauren — carries great symbolism and respect in the Black community.

No one articulates humanist values like Brunello Cucinelli, but Ralph is way up there delivering major marketing changes but without a visual bullhorn.

With the release of Polo Ralph Lauren’s new Oak BluffCollection, its second collaboration with Morehouse College and Spelman College and their research and archival teams, I’m ending the competition in my mind between the two designers, great brand builders and global good guys. They are equal in my mind as global humanists after today.

WSJ Magazine goes to Sri Lanka with model Imaan Hammam in the ‘Best Dresses of the Summer’. The very top model, who is tight with Adut Akech and Palomma Elsesser, says about models of color in fashion: “I remember when I started, it was competitive,” pointing out that often only one model of color would get cast for any given job.

As for the headline about Imaan’s work in Africa — which really caught AOC’s eye — Hammam made one trip to Gambia in 2019 with a group called ‘She’s the First’. She hopes to go again in the future.

Now for the photography by Nadine Ijewere [IG] There are some spectacular shots in this fashion story. Several are gallery worthy and kudos to Nadine Ijewere.

Hammam agrees that this is no longer the case.

Nadine Ijewere Captures Vogue US December's Ode to Glorious Aunties

The December 2020 issue of American Vogue brings a delicious visual and historical narrative fashion story to its pages. Titled ‘Family Values: An Ode to Aunties and Their Inimitable Sense of Style’, the new fashion images including models Adut Akech, Akon Changkou, Ariish Wol, Kesewa Aboah and Maty Fall are styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson.

London-born photographer Nadine Ijewere, of Nigerian-Jamaican parentage, is behind the lens. Her Nigerian ancestry is relevant because writer Alexis Okewo sets the stage for a discussion on aunties based on her own experience growing up in Alabama’s Nigerian community.
