Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri changes course for her Dior Fall 2021 campaign, turning her gaze from photographer Elina Kechicheva’s Carvaggio-inspired Spring 2021 campaign to vibrant, pop art colors images in tart yellow, lime green and pink for fall.

Photographer Brigitte Niedermair [IG] returns to Dior, creating vivid Fall 2021 images that convey vitality and optimism. Artist Maripol, [IG] described as “the gatekeeper of ‘80s club culture”, also worked on the campaign, Polaroid in one hand.

Shot by Tyler Mitchell, in his signature optimistic style, the campaign images and video create a story of joy, friendship and inclusivity.and an ode to moments of openness and congregation in a post-COVID and more racially-interactive world.

The talents featured in the campaign are dynamic individuals whose skills, outlook and unique beauty are celebrated and admired by Rocha. Actors Daisy Edgar-Jones and Micheal Ward, both rising stars, appear alongside Royal Ballet Principal Dancer Francesca Hayward, the artist Faye Wei Wei, the captivating models Mouchette Bell and Aramish Mangi, and the pioneering musician Kelsey Lu – who also provides the beautiful soundtrack for the campaign film.

Also featured are figures who are often present in Rocha’s world, whether in her shows or images, such as the model Tess McMillan and sisters, Adwoa Aboah and Kesewa Aboah, the former an activist and model, the latter an artist and model.

Writing for WSJ Magazine, Elisa Lipsky-Karasa swears that COVID-19 has not meant the end of high-octane fashion. All reports on the high-end luxury market are that she’s correct. In fact, the rich have become disproportionately richer during the pandemic, but I’m not seeing very much of a “let them eat cake” attitude going on out there.

In a nod to Stella McCartney’s fantastic pre-fall collection, let’s hope that women of means are at least thinking about sustainability before rapturing on the latest pair of 4” heels. My observations suggest that there’s very solid movement in the direction of fashion awareness on the sustainability front.
