Kim Kardashian Muses with Carine Roitfeld in CR Fashion Book 23 Cover 1 of 11
/If 21st century culture and spirituality had goddesses, Kim Kardashian could easily be she who presided over social media, reality television, fashion and entrepreneurship. These thoughts open her interview with Carine Roitfeld in a CR Fashion Book Issue 23, with 10 more muses besides Kardashian to follow.
Roll all crowns together in one gargantuan head dress like a pair of Victoria’s Secret Angel wings weighing in at 60 lbs — except SKIMS has no wings.
Or break them into individual crowns, one for Monday, another for Tuesday etc.
CR Fashion Book says that Kim Kardashian has been a muse to them since she appeared on the cover of the Fall/Winter 2013 Issue 3. Art directed by Riccardo Tisci, Kim was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld and styled by Carine Roitfeld herself.
Kim was pregnant with North in that first photo shoot.
With this new CR Fashion Book 23, Kardashian takes her fourth cover — and what an amazing fashion story this is. Ben Perreira works with Carine on styling, choosing DSQUARED, Jacquemus, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Prada, Nensi Dojaka, and more. Photographer Nadia Lee Cohen [IG] is in the studio, capturing Kim Kardashian in a total transformation of the woman we know.
AOC has been down with Kim Kardashian since day 1, but she could have traveled incognito in these images. It’s a fact that the devoted mom of four likes being regularly photographed, but if she didn’t want to be recognized, this is one heck of a surprise.
In fact, Kim could start picketing Season 4 of the Kardashians, appearing on HULU on September 28, walking around LA with her protest sign and see what people said to her. The recording van could be located closeby.
Asked about her own icons, Kim tells Carine: “I’m not just saying this but you are one of my style icons. Elizabeth Taylor is my jewelry icon and I always admired her for her heart and activism to change the world. Marilyn is just an iconic strong woman to me.” Kim also adds her girl family of mother, grandmother and sisters.
Kardashian refers to her own soul multiple times in the interview, which fascinates Anne. After the two mega voices in fashion talk about much needed needed reforms in America’s criminal justice system, Roitfeld asks Kardashian: “When do you feel most free?”
KK answers:
When I make business choices that are from the soul and not a quick, easy decision. I’d rather take the longer route and go with the journey than an easy choice that seems expected.
What’s fascinating about Kim’s answer — and there’s a note of serendipidity in this post following one on Bruno Cucinelli’s corporate commitment to humanism — is her hire of Angela Ahrendts.
In mid-August, AOC noted that Angela Ahrendts of Burberry and Apple stores fame has joined SKKY Partners at a senior operating adviser level. That’s Kim’s equity investment firm formed with longtime Carlyle Group consumer head Jay Sammons.
New Human Movement
“There are rare times in life when you meet people whose vision and mission and values are just so aligned to yours and then you feel collectively that you really can do something different,” Kim Kardashian said about Angela Ahrendts to WSJ.
What is that shared mission and values, AOC asks.
Visiting Ahrendts’ IG, we learn that in a March 2022 episode of ‘New Human Movement’, authors Gary Hamel and Michele Zanini probed Ahrendts’ brain, discussing how leadership needs to be reimagined for a new age. Note that not only reformed leadership is part of this business superstar’s purview. In her own words:
“Our conversation is part of a series on reimagining work, management and capitalism for a new age. “
AOC notes also that Khloe Kardashian’s Good American brand, co-owned with Emma Grede — wife of Kim’s partner Jens Grede at SKIMS, is a B-corp.
While the majority of business and creative intellectuals probably scoff at the idea of Kim Kardashian being a humanist, she may be a 40-year-old Miuccia Prada in the making — in her own field of endeavor. After all SKIMS is now valued at $4 billion and Victoria’s Secret $1.3 billion, so we know how smart she is.
I argue that her dedication to criminal justice reform certifies her as a ‘humanist’. One of the most successful women in retail, Angela Ahrendts agrees. ~ Anne
