Miu Miu Releases Fall Winter 2020.2021 Campaign 'Close', A Collective Creative Effort

Miu Miu releases its Fall 2020 campaign, the result of a collective artistic effort created in quarantine. Called ‘Close’, Miu Miu’s campaign explores the theme of proximity in which each photographer has created a series of visual statements on the unique and intimate relationship they share with their subject. It highlights the significant role that personal distance plays in an image-maker’s treatment and understanding of what and who they are photographing..

Led by art director Katie Grand, the Miu Miu campaign draws on Gigi Hadid’s blossoming photographic talents in spontaneous backstage images from the Fall 2020 Miu Miu runway show in Paris.

Photographer Liz Collins captured close-up portraits of the models before they strutted down the Fall 2020 catwalk. Away from the runway, Kate Moss styled her daughter Lila, with Grand consulting. Nikolai von Bismarck, Moss’s partner, captured Polaroid fashion magic at their home.

Hand-drawn illustrations and animations were created by Anthony Turner, Luella Bartley, Silvia Prada and Chantal Stracey. British-Jamaican photographer Amber Pinkerton documents life’s everyday beauty, and photographed young Londoners coming out of isolation, into the physical space after being in lock-down. Miu Miu gave Douglas Irvine exclusive access to the Fall 2020 collection, where he captured individual models in their show looks.

With a particular focus on accessories, Steve Mackey shot London model Kasper Kapica wearing the collection on both film and Polaroid on location in a local public park. The Polaroids have been given a hand-painted treatment by Patrick Waugh, the signature of his brushstrokes evident in the texture of the paint.

"Everyone participating in this project is already a part of Miu Miu's extended family," the brand notes in an official press release. "The participants' familiarity both with their subjects and with the broader world of Miu Miu gives Close a profoundly personal and proximate quality at a moment in history that has required us to reevaluate our understanding of personal distance."
