Jan. 5 Golden Globe Awards Goes Plant-Based Menu Only

Executive Chef of the Hilton, Matthew Morgan, told AP that he was initially shocked by the menu change for Sunday night’s 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, just two weeks out from the event at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.

The stars will be eating a plant-based menu, prompted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s decision to raise awareness about food consumption and food waste. After his initial shock, Morgan embraced the challenge with gusto.

This year’s menu will include a chilled golden beet soup appetizer followed by a main course of king oyster mushrooms scallops — no actual scallops involved — and wild mushroom risotto, along with carrots and roasted baby purple and green Brussels sprouts.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn also wants to reduce plastic waste this year, so it teamed with Icelandic Glacial to offer guests water in glass bottles. Any straws, of course, will be paper, and Icelandic Glacial promotes itself as certified Carbon Neutral.

The Golden Globe Awards will air live on NBC this Sunday at 5 p.m. Pacific. See website.
