/Brazilian luxury jewelry brand HStern [IG] celebrates the 20th anniversary issue of Vogue HStern 2025 part of the Vogue Brazil [IG]. The issue features multiple fashion and culture stories focused on HStern jewelry.
Model Bela Carfer stars in the fashion story ‘Sailing Is Preciso’, focused on HStern’s new Sea of Voltas collection, lensed by Wallace Domingues [IG] with styling by Henrique Sca.
Blue topazes, which resemble the color of the sea, and gray pearls, reminiscent of the foam of ocean waves, are the protagonists of the jewelry.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, H Stern was founded in 1945 by Hans Stern, a German-Jewish immigrant who started the company after working with gemstones in Brazil. AOC steps back to retell the story of the 17-year-old immigrant with a bit more flourish, via the JTA.
In 1939, on the eve of World War II, a penniless German Jew named Hans Stern arrived in Brazil with his parents. He had 10 deutschmarks in his pocket — and no clue about how he’d make a living.
Six years later, as the war was winding down, the enterprising teenager sold his prized accordion for the equivalent of $200 and used the money to start his own jewelry business.
When H. Stern was founded in 1945 as a gemstone trading business, the potential young Hans saw in Brazil’s colorful precious gems, was virtually undeveloped.”Mr. Stern especially loved the tourmaline, a multicolored semiprecious stone common in Minas Gerais,” wrote the NY Times in October, 2007 about the passing of the founder, as the business moved to ownership by his four sons.
