adidas x Gucci Is Pure Excellence on Steroids Imbued with Heavenly Creative Talent
/Not all collaborations are created equal. Designed by Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele, adidas x Gucci is spectacular in a business-smart kind of way. The design hybrids created by this fusion of business brilliance go way beyond wearable and visually appealing.
The two brands adidas and Gucci look like they were made for each other . . . like adidas should just buy Gucci [ relax Kering].
At least get married . . . or realistically, be lovers to reconnect around the world after a few years absence from seeing each other. Sparks fly between these two when they meet, and every human, cat and dog within 10 miles of their meeting starts smiling. African elephants feel the ubuntu vibe in Kenya and Botswana and make hearts with their trunks.
Sentimentality has a strong hold on the hearts and minds of today’s consumers, and this collection paints a different vision of the future than our young people see right now. It’s as if the mega adidas — who is deeply involved in creating a sustainable future — and Gucci, too with Equilibrium — is handing us a visual lifeline that says — in their own words:
“We know it’s really bad out there, but we are adults in the room trying to fix things. We know we are a huge part of the problem, but we are seriously working on it. You do have a future, our dear young hearts. You can believe in our symbolism and best efforts — even if the US Supreme Court is trying to take away women’s right to control their own bodies; the state of Florida is banning your even speaking of being gay; and across America, red states are saying that slavery was actually an example of white people’s Christian benevolence.”
“Oh, we forgot about the baby formula shortage. How the hell does the great America have a baby formula shortage? You can’t not buy baby food.”
“Adidas x Gucci is on your side — whatever real-world drama is unveiling itself before your disbelieving eyes. And boomer grandparents, everything you marched for is not lost. Bernie Sanders — that sit-in at the University of Chicago was worth it. Keep standing up for everyday people, Bernie.”
“Now we know some of these products cost $2000 a pop, but hug the vibe because it’s visibly filled with love and traditions you can believe in. “
“For one moment, we are not corporate jerks. We really do understand where you are coming from, adidas x Gucci lovers. This is “trippy” fashion you can believe in. “
“Okay, it probably doesn’t pass the Stella McCartney test in sustainability, but it’s got a LOT of sustainability going on in the collection. A lot. Anne can’t find it garment by garment, and she is knocking her brains out not to be accused of emotional greenwashing for big corporations in this post.”
“Yes, Carlijn Jacobs [IG] is behind these photographs, inspired by archival fashion catalogs. And the new director of imagery — and we’ll throw in creativity — for Off White, Ib Kamara has done the styling.”
“Didn’t Anne write in her comments about the ‘Team Too Much’ fashion story for Dazed Magazine’s winter issue that 1+1=3 with Jacobs and Karama? Yes, she did — probably because J and K sit side-by-side in the alphabet. The universe is speaking [just kidding — fake news]. “
“But seriously, dear hearts, our beloved Virgil Abloh is nodding his heavenly-head spirit over our most sincere, heads bowed to the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Marvin Gaye collaboration. We can read Virgil’s mind: “Not bad, dear friends. Not bad. A very nice try. Next time make it 100% sustainable because from up here looking over Planet Earth, I assure you all that big business had better get cracking on sustainability before you destroy the whole damn world.”
“Meanwhile, the design symbolism integration is epic, guys. Not bad at all. If global temperatures weren’t heating up at an epic pace, I’d say the adidas x Gucci collection dropping June 7, 2022 is pure ‘fire’.”
Anne back in the writing seat. Sorry for being co-opted, but I had a moment. Models in this visual adidas v Gucci shindig include Aivita Muze, Aouatif Saadi, Ebony Francisco, Jie Zheng, Lily McMenamy, Mammina Aker, Paul-Emile Paillier, Ruiqi Jiang, Scarlet Peguero, Shuqi Lan and Tangde Wang. In this case, Viola Di Sante deserves a casting director mention. And Christopher Simmonds provides art direction.
Good goddess, I needed that fashion-fantasy getaway. It’s a vitamin pill fortification in the midst of such global fear and sorrow. The adidas x Gucci collaboration is pure divine excellence.
“Amen, Anne.” Whoa, who said that? “We did, Anne.”
Oh no, I’m hearing voices now. This is a bad sign. What if Virgil hooks up with Mami Wata? And Oya, too? My ancestral mothers. What a thought! ~ Anne
