Rihanna Is DIY -- or So Says the Headline -- of Vogue Italia June 2021 Cover Story

Rihanna covers the June 2021 issue of Vogue Italia, called the ‘Do It Yourself’ issue by EIC Emanuele Farneti. He writes:

“In recent years we have tried to use our cover in many different ways: with photography or illustrations, or even without images. However, we had never asked the protagonist to do everything by himself: pose, photograph, choose what clothes to wear. If there was a right moment for this new experiment, it could only be the DIY issue, and there could not be a better subject than Rihanna - so many times on the covers, but never like this time in the version in which she and only she chose to show oneself, without filters and mediations ".

Ferdinando Verderi is the creative director on the shoot, with Jahleel Weaver at Rihanna’s side.

In our opinion, it’s pointless to address the current state of Vogue Italia — so we won’t.

AOC is looking forward to Vogue Scandinavia and hoping for Vogue Africa — which could be absolutely dynamic with a certain new mother in charge. She certainly could put a deal together. As for the rest of the Vogue Euro crew, we’ll see who is left standing, when the restaffing is over.

One strategic reality obvious in the Vogue Scandinavia lineup is a heavy reliance on experts across the countries who have distinct editorial responsibilies but also a vibrant professional life away from Vogue Scandinavia. They bring the learnings of that life — often rooted in business and/or brands but also an art discipline or digital wunderkind — to their Vogue Scandinavia editorial perspective.
