Actually, Joshua Tree National Park is located in Southern California, along the boundary of two distinct deserts: the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. And there are small earthquakes all day long. The San Andreas Fault lies just south of Joshua Tree, which is a time bomb always ready to go off.

I hope Winnie won’t be cross with me for saying this, but when I saw her images — and the one below in particular — I thought they were primordial. We know that humans lived in Joshua well over 15,000 years ago — a group of hunter-gathers known as the Pinto Culture. The park's oldest rocks, Pinto Gneiss among them, are 1.7 billion years old.

A Priomordial Beauty

Standing in Joshua Tree in all her naked and timeless beauty, she absolutely is a woman “comfortable in her own skin”.

Winnie didn’t choose to become a front-line fighter for body confidence and beauty inclusion connected to her being the world-famous model with vitiligo. The autoimmune condition that causes patches of depigmented skin chose her.

It’s an indisputable fact that her endearing confidence about herself and her body is infectious. Winnie has helped enormously other people experiencing vitiligo and a host of other conditions that can prompt societal bullying and a loss of confidence causing one to shy away from the world.

Winnie runs towards life, not away from it. Just don’t describe Winnie Harlow as enduring some kind of burden with her vitiligo — the kind of weight on her spirit that reduces her in any way.

Harlow was disturbed that London’s Evening Standard — and they were not alone in 2018 — referred to her as a “vitiligo sufferer.” On behalf of herself and all the people she inspires, Winnie fired back.

I’m not a ‘Vitiligo Sufferer’,” she explained on Instagram. “I’m not a ‘Vitiligo model’. I am Winnie. I am a model. And I happen to have Vitiligo. Stop putting these titles on me or anyone else.”

She also broke down why labeling her as a “sufferer” is incorrect. “I AM NOT SUFFERING!,” she wrote. “If anything I’m SUCCEEDING at showing people that their differences don’t make them WHO they are! All our differences are apart of who we are but they don’t define us! I’m sick of every headline ending in ‘vitiligo sufferer’ or ‘suffers from vitiligo.’ Do you see me suffering? The only thing I’m suffering from are your headlines and the closed minds of humans who have one beauty standard locked into their minds when there are multiple standards of beauty! The beach was damn fine that day, nothing to suffer about!”

On April 21, 2023 Winnie launched CAY Skin in Canada, exclusively at Sephora Canada.

I note that my favorite image by Daniella Midenge image of Winnie’s arms outstretched in concert with Mother Earth is also on the landing page of CAY Skin.

Each of CAY Skin’s products are made with a custom blend of gentle, island-based ingredients including sea moss and other high-performance skincare actives like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. Winnie has been in a relationship with Washington Wizards NBA player Kyle Kuzma since April 2020. The couple attended the White House Correspondents Dinner at the DC Hilton Hotel on Saturday evening.

In addition to her thriving career and love life, Winnie Harlow recently became a homeowner for the first time.

After living in Toronto, London, and New York, she decided to settle down in Los Angeles. Harlow purchased her first home in the suburban neighborhood of Tarzana, spending $3.3 million on the property. This choice highlights the increasing desirability of the once-overlooked area.
