Raw and Classic Beauty Lives in Loli Bahia by Tyler Mitchell in M Magazine

Loli Bahai covers the Special beauty issue of M, Le magazine du Monde [IG], out this weekend. M focuses on her “look that is both raw and classic, a delicate but androgynous face, an appearance as tender as butte.”

The Lyon born and raised daughter of a Spanish father and an Algerian mother, these days Bahai is a companion to singer Rosalía. Her M Magazine beauty story is styled by Alice Goddard and lensed by Tyler Mitchell [IG], with creative direction by Jean-Baptiste Talbourdet-Napoleone./ Hair by Claire Grech; makeup by Yadim

Bahia was officially discovered by Nicolas Ghesquière, who invited her to walk the Louis Vuitton F/W 2020 show. Because it took place on March 3, 2020, Louis Vuitton was the final major showcase of Paris Fashion Week—narrowly escaping the sweeping global lockdowns that went into effect later that month, due to the COVID pandemic.

The global lockdown made traditional photography session nearly impossible. The Lyon-born model did appear in the September 2020 of Numéro France and AOC’s headline referred to Loli Bahia with our truest compliment, calling her a “true grit” woman.

A similar compliment from us is a “woman with backbone.” On occasion we use “true grit woman with backbone”! Then you are really in the hallowed halls of R-E-S-P-E-C-T at Anne of Carversville.

The very nature of Boo George’s photography style captures the fierce “nerve” of true grit women. Indeed, on occasion we do look like Barbie. No shade intended for Barbie. Reality is that Boo George might live at the top of the list of photographers who capture this version of female identity — or gender identity, if you prefer.
