Emily, Gigi, Paloma, Tina in Victoria's Secret Very Sexy 'Escape to Summer 2024'
/Victoria’s Secret [IG] launched its Very Sexy ‘Escape to Summer 2024’ campaign starring Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser and Tina Kunakey on June 11th.
Former EIC of Vogue Paris [now Vogue France] Emmanuelle Alt styles the campaign with a French mix of sexy corset tops, lace teddies and bras in intoxicating summer colors. Add statement jewelry to the sensual Victoria’s Secret collage, lensed by Mikael Jansson [IG].
As an aside, AOC really likes Mikael Jansson as a Victoria’s Secret photographer. His images are highly sensual and personal — not voyeuristic from the photographer’s point-of-view. They are modern and frankly gorgeous, without devolving into male-gaze imagery.
Victoria’s Secret’s Future
Victoria’s Secret’s stock has plummeted from $42 to $17.75 a share today, since going public in 2021. The brand I have loved deeply is a total mess, with its constant professions of being committed to doing better. Needlessly so, I will add.
VS sounds like a husband committed to serial adultery with some new fling, but every time his wife is ready to walk out the door, he falls to his knees, begging her for one more chance. The phrase “we hear you” means nothing with VS.
This campaign is 110% beautiful — although the release may be late.
AOC doesn’t rush to deal with Victoria’s Secret anymore, but FGR is always on the front end of VS publishing dates — and they posted the campaign this morning.
I will not link to the VS website [one that doesn’t look like these feast for the eyes images AT ALL], preferring to live in this beauty in this moment and not the VS landing page.
Writing in early June about Victoria’s Secret’s gut-wrenching first-quarter sales results, I said:
“First quarter 2024 Victoria’s Secret net sales in North America dropped by 7.2 percent, according to WWD. With regard to the 2024 reintroduction of the runway fashion show, the real question facing the lingerie brand is “does anybody care?”
As a 10-year veteran of Victoria’s Secret, who self-created the first product development unit and first fashion office among all the then-Limited brands, I want VS to find its way.
Simultaneously, another part of me is furious with VS for all the needless nonsense — bordering on incompetence — they have created in recent years.
It’s a real dog and pony show to watch, and all it had to be was this gorgeosity. To remind ourselves of how far Victoria’s Secret has fallen, it occurred to me that VS is lucky that EmRata and Gigi Hadid remain connected to the brand.
Both superwomen models, executive business owners, media talent and moms are more influential than today’s Victoria’s Secret.
Skims out-markets and out-products VS hands down, at every opportunity, including today. I just gave both brands a solid look.
Last year, AOC broke it all down in great detail. Today, I have bigger fish to fry. ~ Anne
