Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist Falls Into Size 0 Body Debate

There’s interesting size 0 model, anorexia talk going on this morning. We’ll share, rather than add to it, because Anne is a broken record on this topic. Fashion Gone Rogue isn’t a place where one expects much push back on ‘anorexic-looking’ models, but comments broke out around this Hedi Slimane editorial of Anna Selezneva.
Of greater interest is a good dialogue going on over at The Sartorialist, where Scott Schuman has accidentally stepped into the size o (or less) model controversy with images of this woman and the accompanying text:
I saw this young lady in Milan several times this past season. She is one of the crop of new bloggers. (Read her blog here.) I loved that she’s a bigger, curvier girl than most of the other bloggers who you see in the press and tend to represent the genre.
The subtle thing she achieves so successfully in these two looks is to complement the sturdy but beautiful shape of her legs with an equally strong shoe. A daintier shoe would be overpowered but these shoes create a beautiful harmony for the lower half of her body.
Tomorrow I’ll post an image of a different young lady I met in Paris with a similarly curvy body type but a different method of creating body harmony.
We do think Scott Schuman is in danger of a fashion-advice drowning here, suggesting that women with ‘sturdy’ bodies shouldn’t wear kitten heels or stilletos, just clunky shoes for their clunky bodies, but he’s a great guy and means well. Enjoy. The blogger is Angy’s tea room.
