Getting Down With Martha Washington: The First Mama Was A Hottie

Martha Washington, first mama of the United States of America is undergoing a revision.

The Washington Post reminds us that most of our Martha references portray her as a “frumpy, dumpy, plump old lady … wearing what could pass for a shower cap with sponge rollers rolled to tight underneath”.

We forget that Martha was the rich widow, with five plantations to run, wore “avant-garde deep purple silk high heels studded with silver sequins on her wedding day”.

Like the Adams marriage that followed, George and Martha Washington had genuine lust in their hearts for each other, a fact that I understood reading David McCullough’s book “1776”.

The Washington marriage may have been a perfectly matched stew of sizzling sex hormones. but stories like this one underscore my frustration with contemporary Americans who use every “I’m too busy” excuse, to avoid staying in bed, where they belong.
