Amber Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp has reportedly sued her for $50 million in a defamation suit over an op-ed that she wrote in the Washington Post in December 2018, further detailing her experiences with Depp.
The suit, which is for $50 million, says Heard “is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator.” The suit also denies that Depp ever abused Heard, and claims that her allegations were part of an “elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity” for the ‘Aquaman’ star.
Heard “purported to write from the perspective of ‘a public figure representing domestic abuse’ and claimed that she ‘felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out’ when she ‘spoke up against sexual violence,’ ” Depp’s lawyers state in the lawsuit.
“I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out,” Heard wrote in the op-ed. This claim might be the only one that both Heard and Depp agree on.
