Chanel, Jourdan, Arlenis, Lais & More Lensed by Emma Summerton as 'The Black Allure' for Vogue Italia February 2011
/Then: The art of womanhood bursts into our visual senses in this explosively beautiful lensing by Emma Summerton of fashion’s most beautiful black women models for Vogue Italia February 2011. Styled by Edward Enninful, ‘The Black Allure’ fashion story is a smashing success in every aspect.
Models include Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Melodie Monrose, Ajak Deng, Arlenis Sosa, Sessilee Lopez, Rose Cordero, Kinee Diouf, Lais Ribeiro and Mia Aminata Niaria.
Now: It’s highly likely that ‘The Black Allure’ is my favorite fashion story in Anne of Carversville. I can say in all honesty that I recall vividly when I first saw the images, and the story took my breath away with its extreme beauty, its elegance, the colors and jewelry.
Connecting with the story all over again, I want to sleep on this subject for a day or two and then write about it within today’s world view and cultural experience. One strong impression is that I failed in 2011 to place the visual narrative in a European lens — and specifically within the lens of European cafe society during WW11. This topic and the historical/cultural backdrop of race in Europe compared to America is very much part of my current mindset.
So I must think further before I speak. All I know is that ‘Black Allure’ is unadulterated beauty in every aspect. ~ Anne
