The photoshoot happened in Morocco where Kidman was filming ‘Queen of the Desert’, inspired by the life of Gertrude Margaret Lowthian Bell, an English writer, political officer, administrator and archaeologist with deep knowledge of and sentiments about the Arab world. Bell believed that the momentum of Arab nationalism was unstoppable, and she spent much of her life in Baghdad.
Renewing this photoshoot today — July 28, 2025 — AOC also has no knowledge of Gertrude Bell. She was an absolutely fascinating woman who became highly influential in the Arab world, and thereby in the world of international politics focused on the Middle East.
Kidman considered Gertrude Bell to be a “female Lawrence of Arabia”, while also pondering the contradiction embedded in Bell’s lack of support for the suffragette movement. A decade after first posting this fashion shoot, AOC is inspired to dig much deeper into the life of Gertrude Bell.
AOC’s last post about the enormously-talented actor Nicole Kidman was her May 2025 shoot and interview with Allure US. Nicole Kidman Is 'On a High' in a Hyperbaric Chamber by Dan Beleiu for Allure May 2025 in AOC Fashion.
