/Supermodel and environmental activist Carolyn Murphy and art critic, writer and Gagosan curator Antwaun Sargent are styled by Tess Herbert in Gucci’s Spring 2022 ‘Off the Grid’ collection. Photographer Daria Kobayashi Ritch [IG] shot the campaign in partnership with So It Goes magazine at the Flamingo Estate.
Home to Richard Christiansen and a brand created from Gaia’s orchard, garden and friends. AOC has written about Flamingo Estate previously, and the website is just intoxicating in its natural beauty. It’s truly a stunner, even if you are only searching for a 2 minute mental getaway.

This season’s Off the Grid collection is heavy on Gucci luggage made of regenerated ECONYL® nylon — the miracle-fabric used by many top luxury brands.
Gucci’s Demetra
The collection also uses Gucci’s Demetra — an in-house developed, totally-scalable fabric made from animal-free raw materials that are primarily from sustainable, renewable and bio-based sources. Significant amounts of planet-hugging Demetra that end up as normal sewing factory waste will be recycled. The new Demetra fabric/materials is a living example of the Gucci-Up program, created to support a circular production and economic model.
Demetra is produced entirely in a Gucci factory in Italy [yeah!!!] using the same expertise and processes for tanning that give the material its pliable and resilient performance with a supple finish. Gucci has major plans to use Demetra in its sneakers.
The critical concept creating excitement around Demetra is its scalability. In fact, Gucci has plans to sell Demetra to other fashion houses — an OUTSTANDING approach to innovation for a commercial brand.
Our young people are demanding these kinds of collaborative rethinks in the fashion industry. If we are to survive as a human species, we must recast the cut-throat, business models of “winner takes all’ and “he who has the most expensive toys” wins approach to business.
