Ryan Gosling for Fall 2022 Gucci 'Valigeria' Luggage Campaign by Glen Luchford

In the words of Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, “Travel for Gucci was never purely physical. Gucci is the brand that accompanied the artists, writers, actors, and directors of Hollywood on their journeys …”

The Italian brand makes a perfect move to put Hollywood guy Ryan Gosling on the road in a throwback film for Gucci’s latest ‘Valigeria’ luggage campaign.

Gosling does not travel lightly, perhaps emptying the Gucci store in Beverly Hills of every Gucci Valigeria travel selection in its inventory.

In the campaign envisioned by Alessandro Michele and captured by Glen Luchford [IG]. Backed up by creative direction from Christopher Simmonds, Ryan Gosling traverses time and space without a clear vision of his destination. Setting off from a motel in a drive down the road, Gosling ends up pushing his trolley of Gucci riches onto the beach — where a bit of Alice in Wonderland magic envelopes the actor in the Gucci trunk.

Brought along are vintage and contemporary Gucci trolleys, hard and soft suitcases, duffle bags, trunks, hat boxes, and beauty cases made from GG Supreme fabric in diverse shades or in leather with the emblematic Web stripe.

Gucci reminds us on their website that the House’s founder, Guccio Gucci, worked in his youth as a porter at London’s famous Savoy Hotel. Pushing his own trolleys laden with luggage, the idea behind his artisanal atelier took on life.

Barbie and Ken

Canadian actor Ryan Gosling says that he received a sign from the universe to play Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ with Margot Robbie in the starring role . . . and what a sign it was.

It’s clear that Ken would have loved all the Gucci ‘Valigeria’ luggage, although I suspect a roadster would be more his style than a pickup truck.

Reports are that Gosling riffs on Ken, even when he’s promoting other projects, and this is a real-deal sign. As Gosling tells the story, Gerwig had approached the actor about playing Ken, and he loved the script, telling Jimmy Fallon it was the best he’s ever read.

However, the actor still wanted time to think further and not make the decision too quickly, in spite of his great response to the script. You can believe it or not, but as I have had multiple unbelievable experiences that defy rational thinking, I’m in a wow state.

Walking a short time later — perhaps even a day or more — into his backyard, Gosling discovered a shirtless Ken doll, lying facedown in the mud next to a “squished lemon.” The actor took a snap of the muddied-up Ken doll and texted it to Gerwig.

“I said, ‘I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told,’” Gosling told Fallon. Somehow Alessandro Michele has to pick up this story and run with it. It screams for his creative intervention. ~ Anne
