Amber Argues for Personal Responsibility

On Monday afternoon Jan. 8, hours after the Golden Globes, Vogue100 hosted an elegant luncheon at Sunset Tower Hotel. Stylist Micaela Erlanger, Maison de Mode’s Hassan Pierre, model Amber Valletta, and Vogue’s Willow Lindley joined forces to discuss the intersection between sustainability and fashion.

Amber Valletta challenged advised that before working with a brand, models, influencers, and more should inquire about its efforts towards sustainability. “It’s not just for a paycheck,” she declared.

This is the evolution of responsibility models, influencers, stylists and photographers have, according to Valletta. Imagine if there was a simple check list attached to fashion shoots that wasn’t used to harm people in any way. But what if everyone on the shoot saw the answers to basic questions, such as what products used in this shoot have sustainable credentials, certifications, etc.

By asking simple questions around the sustainability of our actions, we begin to put the topic front and center in the minds of fashion industry players. To be honest, I gave up all meat, but am eating fish. I do eat eggs and am not intending to turn my life inside out. Still I gave up meat without skipping a beat, and I’m stunned by how easy it was. Note that I was a healthy eater for years going into the decision. We are surrounded by small steps and let’s start making them. For me, I couldn’t write one more article on meatless eating and methane gas from cows. So I just did it. ~ Anne
