Harry and Meghan Donate Time to Project Angel Food

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently relocated to Los Angeles, never dreaming that their arrival would be celebrated with social distancing in their new home.

TMZ posted a video of Harry and Meghan's first sighting in Los Angeles, where they appeard to be delivering packages at several housing complexes in the city. Harper’s Bazaar reports that Meghan and Harry volunteered two days on behalf of Project Angel Food, founded by former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson in 1989 at the height of the AIDS crisis. The nonprofit currently cooks and delivers more than 600,000 nutritious meals a year suffering from life-threatening illnesses in the Los Angeles County area.

Their first assist came on Easter Sunday, April 12, when they delivered a week’s worth of prepared meals and emergency kits filled with nonperishables to people too sick to shop and cook for themselves. The couple also volunteered on Wednesday April 15, making more than 20 deliveries.

Project Angel Food’s executive director Richard Ayoub, told WEHOville that there was no intention to make Meghan and Harry’s support public knowledge. “They wanted to help us relieve some of the drivers from their workload,” he said. “So they made deliveries in West Hollywood today. It’s really, really amazing. We loved having them and they are the most down-to-earth people.”

Harry & Meghan Support Feeding Britain

Town & Country reports that Harry and Meghan have donated £90,000 to Feeding Britain, an organization that aims to provide families in need with food and hot meals across the United Kingdom. The generous donation stems from the excess funds generated from the 2018 BBC broadcast of the Sussexes' wedding. T&C writes that it was agreed upon at the time that any excess profits would go to a charity chosen by the couple.

The Archbishop of Canterbury — who officiated at the couple’s royal marriage — is also the president of Feeding Britain. A spokesperson for the Sussexes called the couple “delighted” to use excess monies from their wedding day broadcast for “such a great cause.”

Feeding Britain’s national director, Andrew Forsey told T&C that the money, which is expected to arrive this week, “will keep breakfast, lunch and dinner, so three square meals, on the table of many tens of thousands of children across our network.”

Meghan Supports Evening Standard’s Food for London Now Appeal + Hubb Community Kitchen

On Friday April 17, the Duchess of Sussex backed the Evening Standard’s “moving” appeal to raise funds for the delivery of food to poor, elderly and vulnerable Londoners during the coronavirus epidemic.

Meghan is emotionally committed to the community kitchen close to Grenfell Tower, which just unveiled a new meals delivery service for families experiencing food scarcity during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Hubb Community Kitchen plan to start cooking between 250 and 300 meals a day, three days a week.

Markle had a zoom conference call with Hubb Community Kitchen leaders last week, helping them to brainstorm strategy for the new initiative. The Evening Standard’s charity partner The Felix Project donates most of the produce used by the Hubb Community Kitchen.

Meghan Markle brainstormed strategy with women from The Hubb Community Kitchen in a recent Zoom call. Those on the Zoom call were kitchen manager Leila Hedjem, as well as cooks Cherine Mallah, Halima Al-Hudafi, Oxana Sinitsyna and Jennifer Odonkor.
