New Bride Karlie Kloss and Momofuku Milk Bar's Christina Tosi's Wedding Cake Go Way Back
/Today’s brides have a passion for naked cakes and Momofuku Milk Bar is leading the trend, offering patisseries for wedding days!
The Milk Bar made big news recently, supplying the wedding cake for Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner’s quiet, surprise nuptials last week for 80 guests in upstate New York. The couple will hold a much larger reception in the spring.
The Milk Bar wedding cake is no surprise for Karlie because she has worked closely with the brand in the past and is good friends with the bakery's owner Christina Tosi. In 2012, with help from Tosi, Kloss created her very own Milk Bar cookie called Karlie's Perfect 10 Kookie. At the time, all the proceeds earned from the treats benefited FEED Project. The newlywed's special creation is still available at Milk Bar.
In a late September 2018 interview on Eater, Christina Tosi shares her strategies for fundraising and growth.
On her actual arrangement with Momofuku and Dave Chang: “Milk Bar is owned in part by me and owned in part by Momofuku because they were my original partner. Dave gave me the seed money 10 years ago to open the first Milk Bar. Milk Bar’s business and operations is run independent of Momofuku for the last nine years. Dave always offered his organization and team, and I realized really quickly into it that running a bakery is wholly different than running a restaurant empire and that his people would always prioritize him first because of course they should, and that I would need something different and I would need to be my own priority...
I think we had a lot of people not fooled, but it was very strategic. That was very helpful for me in growing the business. Also, just having the Momofuku name means like every real estate developer is like ‘Sure little girl. We’ll give you this piece of real estate. Do I ever get to meet David Chang?’.”
Our Karlie Milk Bar mention was a quick footnote to a larger story about Kloss’ editorial post captured at Elon Musk’s Space X and her launch of #KodewithKlossy her Summer Camp free two-week program for girls 13-18 years old who want to learn to code.
Simply stated, Karlie Kloss is one busy woman — and a beautiful bride besides.
