Move & Moderate: The French Woman's Essential Daily Wellness Mantra Simplified

Photographer Eric Maillet and stylist Gaelle Bon share a French perspective on fitness and wellness in ‘Hand to Hand’ for the May issue of MIXT(E) magazine.

The truth is that gyms in Paris are few and far between. While it may be true that Parisian women seem to be genetically bred with a gamine-like, androgynous physique that requires little maintenance, Parisian women not only eat healthy but they walk, walk, walk everywhere. If she’s not walking, look for her on a bike.

Extreme diets are off-limits and so are extreme workouts. The gym is a placed to nurture her bien-être — or self-wellness, tone her body parts to be maillot-ready and work on her strength and posture. The gym is not the place to burn a lot of calories, because the Parisian woman didn’t overeat in the first place. This is why she prefers waist cinchers and beautiful, highly-constructed lingerie, beauty accessories that remind her there is a price to pay when moderation is not front and center in her daily eating balancing act. ‘Could you biggie-size that please?’ is a sentence never uttered from the mouth of a Parisian woman that I know.
