Mark Boyle | Natural Sensuality in God's Country

Just when I think all the Anne of Carversville channels are straightened out once and for all — I break my own rules, putting these images of Seattle painter Mark Boyle’s magnificently sensual, beach paintings in Les Artistes.

This channel is now only devoted to sensual artists dealing with cultural intersections of body, sexuality, religion, femaleness — all the ‘dirty’ subjects in American culture.  My response to these visually arresting images is that they sum up magestically the conundrum of the religious denigrating of sensuality and nature, when it is so beautiful, calming and inspiring.

This subject is on my mind today (as always), writing about the August 2011 the launch of Estee Lauder’s Sensuous Nude fragrance.

I will never forget my trip to the thesarus a few years back, looking for alternative words for sensual: sexual, sexy, suggestive, voluptuous, carnal, coarse, erotic, fleshy, irreligious, lewd, licentious, lurid, seductive, self-indulgent.

Enjoy then, the irreligious paintings of the devil at work. I find them spellbinding and deliciously inspiring. Anne
