NOW: American model Maggie Maurer has become one of fashion world’s most ‘independent’ models, choosing to work only on projects that strike her as having artistic and/or intellectual merit. Maurer is shares that mindset with fellow top model Saskia de Brauw.

Meeting Freyja Today AOC shared Maurer’s September 2025 Vogue Czechoslovakia fashion story honoring the Nordic goddess Freyja. AOC performed one of our intellectual tap dances out of fashion world and into the modern embrace of Freyja by followers of Odinism. Emerging from prehistoric Scandinavia, Odinism was part of the broader religious practices that encompassed the values, myths, and cosmology of the Norse people. Freyja took center stage in the ancient mythology of modern-day Scandinavia.

Contemporary white nationalism has seized upon the mythology of Freyja in ways foreign to her original, gender-equality narrative. We explore this modern landscape in which an ancient and very powerful goddess, worshipped in a situational reality of relative parity with Odin and Thor, is being redefined in a narrative from her original roots in Norse mythology to a racist pillar of modern Odinism [or Ancient Odinism] and patriarchal values.
