Louis Vuitton Spreads a Contagious, Human Joy for the 2023-24 Holidays
/Louis Vuitton delivers smile-worthy holiday cheer in its first episode of a multi-segmented campaign lensed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch [IG] with video by Lope Serrano.
Charles Levai and Kevin Tekinel provide the creative direction, with styling by Stella Greenspan./ Hair by Damien Boissinot; makeup by Hiromi Ueda.
Models include Ahmadou Gueye, Aivita Mūze, Chu Wong, Mathieu Simoneau, Mika Schneider, Valentina Castro and Wen Qiming.
The Maison’s Mascot Vivienne and her friend Teddy arrive to explore all the Maison’s creations. As regulars, they might become treasured ornaments as the years go by — and we are eager to keep track of them.
These darling little creatures pop up everywhere in a distinct statement that whimsy is part of the holiday season and we are quietly encouraged to get “out of ourselves” and into the world of humanity.
With a heavy emphasis on handbags and luggage, Louis Vuitton is reinforcing its deep DNA in the spirit of travel. Brand new is Louis Vuitton’s LV Colormania collection that serves as a tribute to the house’s City Guide series.
With LV Colormania, the brand presents signature pieces in complete washes and subtle details in shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink and purple.
Beyond bags, the campaign reveals an assortment of accessories and other luxury gifts like silk scarves, watches, jewelry and heels. Don’t forget signature fragrances for both women and men, conceived by the Maison’s Master Perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.
This campaign is spreading almost as much joy as my neighbors in Virginia created last June in Paris. In fact, it wasn’t until I listened to Pharrell in the first Louis Vuitton podcast that I learned that this choir across the river from me actually had several singers from Paris, people of color, woven into it.
They had never heard American gospel music before, and the first rehearsal became so emotional everyone just burst into tears and they were all holding one another. Now THAT is an unbreakable American-French alliance for the ages.
American gospel music will do it to ya. Get Vivienne and Teddy into this ‘Joy’ show. They could be dancing on the shoulders of the singers.
I hope to be connecting with these fabulous folks after the holidays. Quite seriously, whenever I’m in a funk — easy, given the state of our world — I play this song. Other people do the same.
So thanks Louis Vuitton for spreading all this global joy. I love this Virginia to Paris pipeline Pharrell has floating around in his mind.
I happen to know that the Monticello Foundation of our third president Thomas Jefferson is working with African chefs in Paris to make new recipes using the crops and plants brought to America on slave ships. We can’t undo the past, but we can tell the real stories of America’s heritage.
Also, Louis Vuitton, your man Mory Sacko, of the Michelin-starred MoSuke restaurant in Paris, is featured this weekend in the New York Times ‘Meet the African Artists Driving a Cultural Renaissance’. He’s probably on the Monticello Foundation list, given his media-chef success.
Dear readers, I say “your man” not with disrespect. Mory Sacko took over the Louis Vuitton restaurant in St. Tropez in the summer of 2022. I’m expecting to hear about Mory Sacko connected to the Paris Olympics this summer, under the LV hospitality umbrella.
I assume you know that Louis Vuitton is one of the biggest sponsors of the summer olympics and very involved in the opening ceremony. After the Pharrell Williams show, we all know they can handle the assignment.
The question is “Can you top that show?” This is the 2024 Summer Olympics, for heavens sakes. In PARIS! OF COURSE they are going to top the Pharrell Williams debut.
So Joy, Joy, Joy everyone. It helps these days to be a glass half-full person. My Virginia friends help me keep the faith, which is why I came here — in hopes of making myself useful in the good fight against hate, darkness and the loss of American democracy. ~ Anne
