Zipangu In LA May 16, 2026

In what AOC wants to view as a sign of the times, Takuya Chigira, the CEO of Japanese talent agency Cloud Nine, is launching Zipangu, a LA-based festival devoted to Japanese culture on May 16. The ardent promoter of Japanese culture attended Matsuri ‘25 in Los Angeles last March, an event that brought three of Japan’s largest acts: Yoasobi, Atarashii Gakko! and Cloud Nine’s own Ado.

The event drew 7,000 people limited only by location. In that moment Takuya Chigira saw the festival as being so much bigger, a dream also embraced by American promoter Goldenvoice, best known for Coachella.

Brookside is a golf course and event space in Pasadena next to the historic Rose Bowl, famous for its New Year’s Day parade of flowers-covered, every inch organic materials floats. Over 3 million flowers were used to launch the 2026 event.

On May 16, 2026 Chanmina and her pop group Hana will join Ado, Atarashii Gakko!, hip-hop artist Yuki Chiba and rock bands Man With A Mission and 10-Feet.

While social media obsesses over Rihanna's pencil-thin eyebrows, AOC is enchanted with Makoto Azuma's floral headpieces worn in her September 2018 British Vogue cover story.

The Japanese flower artist arrived in London with just a pair of scissors in his kit. The lush, often rare botanicals that would become part of RiRi's headpieces were ordered in advance from London's New Covent Garden Market.

“We became one,” Azuma says, of teaching the hair stylists teams of Isamaya Ffrench and Yusef Williams how to attach the flowers safely onto Rihanna’s head. Once the skinny brows and vinyl lips were complete, "Azuma swooped in to make the final arrangements to her facial bouquets," writes British Vogue.
