Zendaya Unfurled in 'Her Own Way' by Josh Olins for Vogue Australia May 2024

Zendaya adds another Vogue cover fashion story to her May 2024, ‘Challengers’ movie tour, fashion story portfolio. Sydney, Australia was the first stop on the 27-year-old’s publicity tour and Hannah-Rose Yee sat down with the actor on behalf of Vogue Australia.

Photographer Josh Olins [IG] takes incredibly-poignant and deeply-personal images of the actor. The one below is one of the most intimate, unrehearsed and unique images in my AOC memory. It has intimacy, vulnerability, a bit of exhaustion or letting-go in the moment. There is no tension in her shoulders, signifying to me great trust and comfort with the photographer. The image has an old masters, British museum quality to it.

Yes, Zendaya is an actor, giving her extra powers in a fashion shoot — if she’s allowed her own self-expression. We are ‘in the room’ at this fashion shoot — as long as we are quiet and not a disruption, watching the method-making of this fashion story.

AOC reserves the word ‘sublime’ for very rare occasions. Like every six months. The Josh Olins images of Zendaya are sublime, defined as having such excellence or beauty as to inspire awe in Anne and, hopefully, others.

We’ve discussed in detail the movie on multiple occasions. However, there are one-liners in this interview that are also gold standard. So read Welcome to the Age of Zendaya at Vogue Australia.

The range of three top talents photographing the same person speaking to the same event — ‘Challengers’ — is interesting, and very much reflecting the individual styles of the artists.

Anne has nothing more to say — except, thank you, Josh Olins.
