New Zealand-born model Georgia Fowler puts on a happy face for ‘On the Glow’, a beauty story for Vogue Australia’s May 2022 issue. Daniella Midenge [IG] is behind the lens at her new daylight studio in the Hollywood Hills. Alex and Anton styled the fashion pieces.

In the grand tradition of Luigi Murenu, Daniella also takes control of hair and makeup for the shoot. I’ve always felt that a key reason why Luigi became such an empath behind the lens — with often spectacular results — is rooted in his prior career with John Frieda.

I’d say the same for Daniella. Her 2021 images of Jennifer Lopez reflected a deep connection that removed any psychological distance between her and Lopez. It was generated by a cosmic vibe of mutual, glamazonian sympatico, not hair and makeup.

But when a photographer can cross that natural psychological chasm between humans with an existing intimacy of hair and makeup collaboration, the garden often bears a similar fruit.

I have a pretty unguarded relationship with Daniella Midenge. When I saw the outtakes, I just laughed and said “You’re kidding me, right? These are outtakes?”

In fact, she saved AOC from an ethical dilemma, because as much as I love Daniella’s personality and her photography work, there’s a reason why AOC does few beauty posts. Thankfully, Daniella’s sixth sense said “Share the outtakes with people” and I didn’t have to get a big headache over saying “It’s not your fault, Daniella, but . .. . “. ~ Anne
