A Fashionista's Guide to Casino Nights Wearing Ageless Flygirl Style
/My day began with a commitment to understanding casino nights start to finish. "Now, Anne," you ask. "Whatever prompted this inquiry?"
"It's a not-so-small trend," I answer. "Casino nights are serious business, and I need to get with the program."
Wired wrote in May 2021 'Luxury Fashion Brands Turn to Gaming to Attract New Buyers'. The luxury market is looking to China, as the biggest driver of its future revenues. JingDaily tells us to take note: "online gaming isn't just popular in China -- it's a way of life."
In a review of 7 luxury brands getting into gaming, Louis Vuitton leads the list.
Anne Gets Real on Casino Nights
Typically, AOC is pounding the keyboard for racial justice or girls education in Afghanistan. Or sharing the mid-March news that Malala is launching a new TV channel with Apple's Tim Cook, who supports her girls education schools around the world.
Only on AOC would my new obsession with biophilia -- living a conscious lifestyle surrounded by nature’s design influences — take me to Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg -- and now two weeks later to Martha Stewart and the perfect casino night.
Here's what happened.
On the topic of biophilia, I was writing about the health benefits of fake plants versus real ones. I assumed that Martha would back me up that live plants are better, but she did not.
Being her usual, uber-perfectionist self, Martha Stewart found some perfect fake plants that we can buy. Score Martha 1; Anne 0.
Reading further, I noted that Martha is teaching her close friend Snoop Dogg how to grow plant-based food. Now we're cranking.
I love unexpected, lasting friendships like the one Martha has with Snoop, who was very impacted observing Martha’s character when she served time in the slammer.
Bottom line, Martha Stewart has been on my brain lately.
This morning I noted that Martha has a new website Martha.com, where you can buy -- like everything Martha Stewart has ever touched in life -- in a business sense. I didn't see the Pretty Litter, but it's probably buried in the Martha.com ‘I love cats’ web files somewhere.
It was at this moment that I said "Anne, you are such a snob. You really are. I double dare you to Google "Martha Stewart plans the perfect casino night." So I did -- and I'm humbled.
Score is now Martha 2; Anne 0.
Even Martha Stewart knows all about casino nights, and yours truly intends to read every word she has to say this weekend.
A summary of my learnings will follow — perhaps entitled “The Perfectly Green and Sustainably Responsible Casino Night.”
Do you think that’s an online game, too? I’m not searching Google or this post will never end.
I have no idea what Martha Stewart wears to her casino night parties, as I still haven't recovered from Martha's ‘spontaneous’ Instagram shots from her East Hampton swimming pool.
The woman is a babe turning 80 this summer. And Buzzfeed writes that Martha swears she doesn’t know what a “thirst trap” photo is.
If the doyenne of creating the perfect life finds casino nights to be great way of entertaining, you can, too.
Gaming Dishes Up Plenty of Fashion, So Find Your Joy
Now that I’ve entered the modern age, I know that your fav slot machine characters are taking style seriously. The fairy of the slots machine Spin Dizzy Pull Tab has a very ethereal look to her, so why not pull your fashion inspo straight from the game?
If looking ethereal is not your jam, one fashion factoid we all can agree on is embracing bright and bold colors in summer 2021. Assuming humanity’s forward motion out of COVID holds steady, dressing with JOY is on everyone's must-do list.

British Vogue’s April 2021 cover girls Achenrin Madit, Janaye Furman, Mona Tougaard, and Precious Lee are styled by Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele in ‘Find Your Joy’. Equally important, joy is infectious to those around you.
While embellishments aren’t something you will likely wear on a daily basis, jazz up your outfits to shimmer and glimmer for your casino night. You can wear sequins, jewels, sparkles, glitter, tassels, chain links, and anything else that adds interest to your outfit and inspires joyful smiles all around — especially if you’re a Virgo like Martha and me.
Jennifer Lopez is a Leo, so she’s supposed to be extroverted, creative and independent by nature. Of course, Lopez is dripping in diamonds in her recent Allure anniversary issue cover story. Once a flygirl, always a flygirl.
But Virgos are represented by wheat and agriculture. We are logical, practical and systemic in our approach to life, willing to subordinate our personalities to the greater good. Is Martha on the cusp or what!
Learn how to Glow Up
Casino nights are for women (and people) of every age, so let’s make a hairpin turn in this post. You, too, can glow up with a bit of practice.
A “glow up” is all the rage when looking at makeup trends at the moment. This means you have that bronzed Goddess glow to your skin, whether it’s natural or you use products to create the look of it. Think luminous, hydrated, fresh, and bronzed skin. You can then finish off the look with bronze smoky eyes and a pop of color on the lips.
For hair, it's all about the loose tousled look with beach waves and plenty of volume and bounce. You want your hair to look natural and as though you didn’t put much effort into it, while still being polished and beautiful.
This week Vogue US issued The Hair Trends That Are Poised to Take Over This Summer.
Beyond the “glow up” and bronzed skin, in addition to beach waves hair with plenty of volume and bounce — whatever your age — be like Martha and own YOU on YOUR casino night. Preparation is important. Everyone from Martha Stewart to her vegan cooking protégé Snoop Dogg will tell you that preparation is key to a successful party.
After that, just imagine you are Jennifer Lopez in Vegas or Martha Stewart in her East Hampton swimming pool. Own the moment with confidence and sincerity — but also with conviction. Because we all know that wearing self confidence is your best fashion statement. And be sure you have a divine time doing it. ~ Anne
