Johanna Ortiz Resort 2020 Artisan-Artistry and Fashion Beauty
/Cali, Colombia-based Johanna Ortiz presented her resort 2020/2021 collection, continuing her commitment to feminine, glamorous and elegant collections that are increasingly sophisticated and born of indigenous artistry.
Ortiz has always challenged her customers to have fun with her designs. But we live in times where sobriety and reflection are pervasive global. Yes, any woman who can afford a $1500 dress probably has the means to escape from the immediacy of global activism.
AOC argues that growing numbers of these women don’t seek to escape, but rather to embrace their world and all of its complexity. Rather, a certain female consciousness is on the rise, one that embraces creativity, intelligence, empathy, engagement, diversity, self-reflection, globalism and the truths of history.
When we last left Johanna Ortiz, AOC referenced her delayed Johanna Ortiz X H&M 2020 spring collab of beautiful summer dresses. What caught my eye was Ortiz’s Instagram post of Felix Vallotton ‘The White and the Black’, 1913.
What a provocative investigation of black women’s history that launched in my mind, a supposedly-informed woman on racial history. It continues to this day. ~ Anne
