LVMH Titans Vuitton and Dior Create a Super Brands Team
I see these two LVMH titan brands — Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior — as bookends in this critical luxury business moment.
LVMH has a serious poker hand: Celine will debut in July with its new designer Michael Rider. The word in financial circles is that Loro Piana has edged out Celine in the 2.25-2.5 billion range.
If Fendi will meet the divine, luxury-brand goddess, LVMH financial rainmaker for real — in Rome, where her heart and spirit want to be, this team is playing on steroids, in this high-pressure, no mistakes allowed business moment.
All Roads Lead to Rome, But About Avignon . . .
Especially because AOC is so deep in writing about the Crusades, the birth of humanism and now Pope Leo as a foil to MAGA Republicans, my jaw-dropped as low as it ever has, when Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Women roared into Avignon last week.
When LV roared out of town, the world’s biggest luxury brand had delivered a big message to all parties. To AOC LV said:
“For crying out loud, Anne. You love that our Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has Adam, Eve and Lilith installed in a relief. Do you seriously think that the French were not deeply involved in the launch of the Renaissance?
If we’re in another historical moment that changes the course of history, France is center stage. Capeesh?
We had to move the Papacy to Avignon from 1309 to 1377, because Rome looked like a MAGA rally on January 6, 2021. Why don’t you write up that story, Anne!”
Trust me, guys. It’s all in the hopper. ~ Anne
From a childhood spent dressing up in her great aunt’s clothes to working with John Galliano and Karl Lagerfeld, Amanda Harlech’s passion for vintage clothes has few constraints. Models Maty Fall and Ajok Daing step into the Harlech archives orbit for Vogue US [IG] April 2025 issue.

The visual feast includes sleeves, collars, boots and belts in oversized proportions. Stylist Alexandra Carl then turns up the visual volume with see-me textures, lengths and layers from the pre-fall collection, lensed by Theo de Gueltzl [IG].
Vogue France celebrates the communion of art and fashion in its December 2023/January 2024 issue. Underscoring the increasingly critical pairing of these two dominant influences in global culture, Vogue France puts model Ida Heiner on the cover, wearing a superheroine-worthy cape, custom-created for the magazine.
Celebrating a decade as artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s Women’s, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s [IG], contract was just renewed for another five years. In this cape project, Ghesquiere worked with contemporary artist Philippe Parreno [IG].

Photographer Théo de Gueltzl [IG] creates exquisite images for Hermès in a an intimate, nature-bound fashion story called ‘Photosynthesis’. Imruh Asha [IG] — who is also working with Pucci — styles models Awar Odhiang and Felice Noordhoff.
The images from ‘Photosynthesis’ are included in Le Monde Hermes n°81, Maybe’s second issue conceived as a collection of notes, photographs and illustrations exploring the theme of lightness.
I love the images — which are absolute Hermès perfection — but within the context of Le Monde Hermes, the vibe is younger, more vibrant and casual. Fabulous!
Supermodel Gigi Hadid is styled by Camilla Nickerson in ‘Well Worn’, fashion story for American Vogue September 2022. The title suggests that Gigi’s story is part of the growing resale market or pieces made of recycled fabrics. Or the fashion story is a mix of old and new, which would at least be progress. I’m seeing that more frequently these days.
Theo de Gueltzl [IG] photographs Gigi, and while he doesn’t have her images yet, his own IG has a wonderful vibe and hits some of these AOC notes.
