Bags and luggage are the visual currency of the Louis Vuitton brand. They also ring the cash register at critical levels to support LV’s position in the LVMH heirarchy. The FW25 Campaign is focused on its latest handbag: the Express, a roomy reprise of the original name of Vuitton’s signature Speedy handbag.
Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari delivered press comments detailing the important role ‘The Louis’ marks on the new journey the luxury brand is taking into the DNA of Louis Vuitton itself. Reinforcing key buzzwords, Beccari stressed the importance of Louis Vuitton’s spirit of travel being experienced not only by crossing national borders, “but through ideas, emotions and inspiration.”
Anne drills down on exactly what Beccari’s words mean.

Recho Omondi talks to Edebiri, who isn’t only starring in ‘The Bear’ — she’s writing for the show.
In talking about their April 2025 issue, Harper’s Bazaar US explains: “We took inspiration from Bazaar's April 1965 issue, guest-edited by Richard Avedon, which offered a kaleidoscopic exploration of the people and ideas that were shaping the era. Sixty years later, what does "now" look like?

Brazilian model Caroline Trentini is photographed by Ethan James Green [IG] in ‘The Workers’, a tribute to master photographer Irving Penn’s 1950-51 ‘Small Trades’ project.
Green is generous in admitting the impact of Irving Penn on his own artistry.

The new ‘Joker’ debuted in Venice last week to mixed reviews. Some criticism is that the film is dull — first and foremost — because Gaga is sidelined and underused. Reviewing probably eight commentaries, no critic suggests that Gaga herself isn’t magnificent in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, opening in US theaters the first week in October.
With all the fan-related resources Gaga brings to her role as the psychologist turned turned villain in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, it seems totally plausible that Gaga’s unusually-fine mind and empathetic persona — combined with years of deep connection to those who view life through the lens of Gaga’s own — have armed her with the capacity to make the most of Harley Quinn’s crossing over to the ‘other side’.
Jonathan Van Meter interviews Gaga, sharing his initial impressions of the star in 2010:
The first time I laid eyes on her in December 2010, she was barefoot, covered in fake blood, mascara running down her face, wearing a robe made of voluminous red feathers—like a cross between Alice Cooper and Big Bird, I wrote. She was dressed like a lunatic and—you guessed it—behaving like one. On another occasion—in another astounding frock, hair in a Bride-of-Frankenstein updo—she had on shoes that made her feet look like they were screwed on backward and brought her up to nearly my height . . .
The June 2024 issues of Vogue Italia and Vogue Germany share a fashion story ‘At Home’ starring actor and activist Hunter Schafer.
The fashion shoot is styled by Dara Allen with creative direction by Raul Martinez./ Hair by Sonny Molina; makeup by Aaron de Mey
The fashion story attempts to reconcile the public and the private. Each image by photographer Ethan James Green [IG] reveals an aspect of performance while simultaneously concealing reality. Living under constant surveillance, being watched is internalized and self-imposed by the woman, role-played by Schafer. “To be a woman is to perform, even if only your reflection is watching.”
The Louis Vuitton Leather Goods Campaign Spring-Summer 2024 returns to the high seas with an extension of their Louis Vuitton Nautical Summer Capsule that focuses on Vuitton’s best handbags.
Lensed by Ethan James Green [IG] against the ancient backdrop of Mediterranean world waters, the campaign steps into AOC’s earlier Louis Vuitton Nautical campaign discussion of women in the world of Olympic sailing.
Today models Chu Wong, Ida Heiner and Sacha Quenby inspires a deeper question by AOC.
Did Women Sail in Ancient Waters?
Based on our best AI, Phoenician women were known to be skilled sailors who played a crucial role in the maritime trade network of the ancient world. These women were involved in various aspects of seafaring, including navigation, trading, and ship maintenance. Their expertise in sailing and trading helped establish Phoenicia as a dominant maritime power in the Mediterranean.
The scarcity of direct historical records makes it difficult to paint a complete picture, yet through the analysis of artifacts, writings by ancient historians, and mythological tales, we begin to see indications of women's participation.
Egyptian-born, American model of South Sudanese descent, Anok Yai covers Harper’s Bazaar US May 2024. Anok is styled by Carlos Nazario and lensed by Ethan James Green [IG] — and what a fashion ride the team delivers.
Understand that Anok Yai — the disciplined, knife fighter with moxie and rock-solid backbone — is also expressing her creative side as an artist. Writer Kaitlyn Greenidge meets the top model at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, in the presence of Kerry James Marshall’s ‘Untitled’ (Studio) painting.
AOC has followed Anok from Day one — literally —and I am so proud that she’s one of our own — a superstar American. ~ Anne
Louis Vuitton is in Olympic Games Paris 2024 countdown, as a lead brand in LVMH’s role as a top sponsor of this summer’s games.
Dropping the new Louis Vuitton Nautical Capsule 2024 this weekend reminds us that some fashion trends truly possess heritage status — in the way that the Olympics are heritage.
Women, Sailing and the Olympics
The world has changed almost beyond recognition since the summer of 1924 — the last time Paris hosted the summer Olympics. One simple statistic grabs our attention immediately: 2954 men competed in the 1924 games and 135 women. AOC digs deep into women in competitive sailing a century ago.
Louis Vuitton's foray into the prestigious realm of sailing and its premier position in the LVMH sponsor umbrella of the Paris 2024 Summer Games spills next into Barcelona, where Louis Vuitton hosts in late August 2024 the America's Cup Challenger Selection Series. Hosting the event since 1983 and subsequently renamed the Louis Vuitton Cup, it culminates in the race for a new America’s Cup Winner.
The February 2024 issue of Harper’s Bazaar US [IG] assembles a creativity cast for ‘The All-Stars’, a fashion story focused on our spring 2024 style trajectory. Carlos Nazario [IG], the newly-named Harper’s Bazaar Style Director, is in charge of a huge gaggle of talent. [Note, these huge groups are SEO-friendly for Internet search traffic. Vogue is using them, too.]

Finally, Léa Seydoux and Elaine Zhong complete the campaign and they love their Capucines.
Quiet luxury it’s not. Top model Raquel Zimmermann proves that she has a ‘Wild Side’ to be reckoned with when the focus is ‘Candy Ravers Rejoice: The ‘90s Are Back.’
The brand lineup is endless and it’s the styling that’s the story. Photographer Ethan James Greene [IG] is in the studio for WSJ Magazine’s October 2023 issue.
Australian actor Margot Robbie doesn’t remember having a Barbie doll, as a young girl growing up in Australia. Her cousin had Barbies and perhaps they all joined Robbie in admiring a dandelion-decorated mudpie or two made for an afternoon tea in the Australian Gold Coast sandbox.
Fast-foward to now, and Barbie’s scheduled touchdown in American movie theaters remains July 21, 2023.
The Summer issue of American Vogue weighs into the frenzy, putting Margot Robbie as Barbie on the cover. Robbie is lensed by Middle America to East Coast photographer, Caledonia, Michigan’s own Ethan James Green [IG].
When pitching her company LuckyChap, the production outfit she runs with her friend Josey McNamara and her husband, Tom Ackerley, to Mattel’s new CEO of Mattel, Ynon Kreiz, at the Polo Lounge in 2018, Robbie was clear about the road ahead.
“We of course would want to honor the 60-year legacy that this brand has,” Robbie says. “But we have to acknowledge that there are a lot of people who aren’t fans of Barbie. And in fact, aren’t just indifferent to Barbie. They actively hate Barbie. And have a real issue with Barbie. We need to find a way to acknowledge that.”
Photographer Ethan James Green [IG] packs up his crew and camera gear, heading out to the desert in a pilgrimage to Nevada’s Area 51. The top-secret military base in remote and rugged terrain is a hot spot for UFO sightings in America, located about 120 miles north of Las Vegas.

Max Mara’s Spring-Summer 2023 campaign has sophisticated swagger. Models trio Adut Akech, Annemary Aderibigbe and Dara Allen step it up to remind us that they are far more than muses or mannequins. Fashion editor Tonne Goodman styles the shoot — a collection of sophisticated essentials with discreet details that she herself would wear — in images photographed by Ethan James Green.
Looking at the images immediately took me back to December 2018, when former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi exited a tough meeting with then president Donald Trump.
The shot of Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer leaving a hard-as-nails meeting with Trump went viral, generating such digital heat that Max Mara creative director Ian Griffiths responded that the coat would be reissued.
AOC has always liked Ian Griffiths because he’s a male designer willing to explore his own contradictions. He does just that in speaking about the 2023 campaign inspired by the French Riviera. Griffiths has not been caught up in trying to make women ‘its’ or ‘theys’, degendering us in such a way that the very concept of women’s rights is no longer necessary. We’re all humans, no need to discuss the failure of mostly — but not exclusively — men to acknowledge women’s inequality.
Center stage in the fashion images shot by Ethan James Green [IG] is the jewelry — a special collection of butterfly-inspired pieces that makeup the new Chopard x Mariah Carey diamonds collection, honoring the pop star’s seminal 1997 album ‘Butterfly’.
The collection is the result of a close collaboration with Carey, Chopard and its Co-President and Artistic Director, Caroline Scheufele.
Hawgood and Carey reflect back on the black and white music video for ‘My All’ directed by the legendary fashion photographer Herb Ritts. Carey remains impacted by the experience. AOC shares the original video.
Stanford University alum, model and expert equestrian Eve Jobs launches her first digital campaign with Louis Vuitton — and we’re here for it. Eve fronts LV Twist handbags, styled by Victoria Sekrier in images by Ethan James Green [IG]. / Hair by Damien Boissinot; makeup by Hiromi Ueda
Given the enormous reach of Eve’s wonderful mother Laurene Powell Jobs, AOC loves putting an American model activist on the Louis Vuitton roster.
Models Jessica Stam, Maty Fall, Rianne van Rompaey and Sherry Shi are center stage in Max Mara’s Fall Winter 2022 campaign. Photographer Ethan James Green [IG] is in the studio, capturing the quartet wearing teddy bear coats, graphic knits and wide-leg pants designed by Ian Griffiths.

Bella Hadid covers the April 2022 issue of American Vogue, telling her story to Rob Haskell in ‘Bella From the Heart: On Health Struggles, Happiness and Everything In Between. Gabriella Karefa-Johnson styles Bella in images by Ethan James Green [IG]. / Hair by Jawara; makeup by Kanako Takase and Yumi Lee
“She’s me on a good day.” Bella Hadid says about Sekhmet, the goddess of war, of the hot desert sun, of chaos and pestilence and its opposite, healing. Terrifying to her enemies, promising righteous retribution to her friends—especially the pharaohs—Sekhmet kept the ancient world’s generative and destructive forces in balance.
Reading Bella’s emotional but focused condemnation of war generally — and Putin’s war against Ukraine specifically — creates insights into the woman AOC has always loved. It’s totally possible to be a warrior goddess and a deep empath at the same time.
As this consummate professional points out, however, the armor or calm, deliberate demeanor required to live life intensely, as an empath who feels events around her deeply, is fertile ground for being misunderstood.
Supermodel, philanthropist, new mom and — adoring, best- buddy wife to Joshua Kushner — Karlie Kloss covers the December/January digital covers of WSJ Magazine. Who better than Karlie Kloss to launch the new year of 2022 in these turbulent times.
Karlie is styled by Charlotte Collet in images by Ethan James Green for Inside Karlie Kloss’s New Life. In Karlie’s own words: “I wanted to change how I was using my job and my platform as a model.”
In Fall 2021 Alek Wek collaborates with Weekend Max Mara on a Signature capsule collection. Mixing “African culture with a London calling vibe and a touch of Boho,” the United Nations’ Good Will Ambassador combined references from her origins in South Sudan with the shared needs for versatility among today’s women on the move.
To celebrate the opening of Versace’s new store in Soho at 111 Greene Street, the brand commissioned photographer Ethan James Green to take Soho street shots of models Adesuwa Aighewi, Jan Carlos Diaz and Noah Louis Brown wearing clothes from the Fall 2021 pre-fall collection.
