Moncler's Remo Ruffini's Humanist Passion and Purpose Topping Luxury Sustainability Index

Fashion industry accolades for Italian billionaire businessman Remo Ruffini continue to pile up like a giant snowdrift. In 2022, Moncler relaunched Grenoble as the brand’s “high Performance’ division, flanked on either side by the fashion-forward Moncler Genius line and the lifestyle Moncler Collection.

Ruffini has not looked back since making the decision — even though luxury brands are tripping all over each other to launch their own winter sports collections.

Recently Moncler Grenoble [IG] launched a new ad campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti after the impressive fall 2024 fashion show held last February in Saint Moritz at the Clavadatsch lodge and its forest.

The images used in this post are from that campaign.

Six Years Running Moncler Group Tops Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Textile, Apparel & Luxury Goods Sector.

On December 16th, news broke that for the sixth consecutive year in a row, Moncler Group topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for World and Europe in the "textile, apparel & luxury goods" sector.

The Index ranks the leading sustainability-driven companies based on economic, environmental and social responsibility criteria, which are analyzed by top credit ratings provider S&P Global. More than 13,000 firms were assessed in the latest index.

Moncler’s current five-year cycle ‘Born to Protect’ was presented in 2020 with a focus on five strategic drivers in the business: climate action, circular economy, fair sourcing, enhancing diversity, and giving back to local communities.

AOC has long said that success seems to come more fruitfully in Europe to those who keep a lower profile — even when those leaders are Ruffini and — prompted by his own remarks — Bernard Arnault and Ralph Lauren.

Ruffini’s investment vehicle Double R holds a bit more than 16 percent of Moncler SpA, the entity that's quoted on the Milan Stock Exchange. In September 2024, Double R welcomed LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which took a 10 percent stake.

According to WWD: “Over the next 18 months, the plan is for Double R to buy more shares in Moncler SpA, boosting its stake to a maximum of 18.5 percent, consolidating Ruffini's hold as the largest single shareholder.

LVMH will be providing the funding for those purchases and, in the process, will increase its investment in Double R up to a maximum of roughly 22 percent.”

As Ruffini explains the situation, Arnault’s investment came at a time when Double R was in a bit of a bind.

"He always said to me, 'If you need me, I'm here.' So when those shareholders left I called him and asked if he was interested in investing, and he really gave me a hand. I feel a lot more calm having him in the holding company. It gives me peace of mind. He has demonstrated great faith in me, my family and the company. Let's hope we don't disappoint him," said Ruffini.

In the case of Ralph Lauren, the accolades are all about Ruffini’s admiration — not only for all that Ralph has achieved with graciousness and style — but specifically the piazza-like vibe he created with Ralph's Coffee, the café attached to the flagship on the corner of Old Bond Street and Burlington Gardens.

"I have admired Ralph Lauren since I was a teenager, and take my hat off to him because he's created a destination -- and such energy -- on that end of the street. When I walked past earlier today, there were so many people outside in the little piazza, having coffee and tea. He's really created a destination, and given new energy to the area. It also proves how important hospitality can be to a brand," said Ruffini.

It’s refreshing to hear accomplished business people speaking so personally about each other. AOC notes that certain names come up frequently and other names come up never in this particular context of business leaders praising and helping each other.

We can all make our own lists, but I have my eye on one person who seems not to have so many friends in the design and fashion luxury world. And I do not mean America’s next tale of turmoil with US President Donald J.Trump. That unique man is in his own league — which he absolutely takes as a supreme compliment from a lib like me.
