Bishop Walker Nickless Calls Contraception Mandate A Plot By The Devil
/Among the guests on the Family Research Council’s anti-contraception coverage webcast held last week was Walker Nickless, the Bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City, who warned that the contraception mandate was literally a plot by the Devil to undermine morality and that Christians “have to stand up and violently oppose this” in order to avoid being overtaken by Darkness.
The Bishop’s comments ignore the large number of prominent Catholic organizations, universities and hospital organization led by Catholic priests and nuns who support the Obama compromise on contraception. But they align perfectly with the Vatican’s exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, a man who says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession in 25 years. In March 2010, Father Amorth proclaimed that “the Devil is a work inside the Vatican.”
Time will tell whether today’s spectacle of today’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s hearing on President Obama’s recent contraception mandate will be an Anita Hill moment, writes Politico.
“I think it is an Anita Hill comparison,” said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), who staged a walkout of Democratic women in protest of the chairman’s decision not to seat a minority female witness at the start of the hearing. “I hope it will be just as galvanizing.”
The Person of Deborah Prophetess and Judge
/The Person of Deborah Prophetess and Judge
By Bro. Solomon
Although Barak will lead Israel in battle, the glory of victory will not be his. YHWH has decided to use women throughout this episode of judges to bring about liberation for Israel, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman” (Judg. 4:9-10). The glory of course will be Deborah’s and Jael’s since they are truly the women who will accomplish the victory, “ The references to Sisera’s death at the hand of a woman states a number of principles in no uncertain terms. By stating that no glory will come to Barak because he would die at the hand of a woman, the text highlights what women should not be doing in the story where they did it.” [7] The emphasis that women will triumph over the enemies of Israel causes no response from Barak, there seems to be an obedience to Deborah’s words, the narrative gives no defense to the fact that she is a woman, neither is there any animosity that a woman will be the conqueror, yet the focus of woman in the text shows an underlying issue which seems to be to the contrary, “Women should not be capturing the opponents military commander. When women fight in battles men lose glory. The implications is that men, or especially Israelite men, fought for glory or renown, not, as Deborah stated because the deity commanded it.”[8]

Arise! Will Young Women Join Anita Hill, Gloria Steinem & Eve Ensler in the Republican War on Women?
/Anne here, very excited to be on my way to New York. Have my press credentials & laptop for ‘live’ blogging from the media pool. Simply can’t believe that I will be in the media room w/Gloria Steinem, Eve Ensler, Anita Hill and all these great women who have fought so hard for women’s rights.
It’s perfect timing, as the Republicans pass a 7th bill that says pregnant women having a miscarriage — who are already distraught over their health emergencies — can die in the emergency rooms of American hospitals.
Our nation no longer has an obligation to save its women, say the Republicans.
20 Yrs After Clarence Thomas Hearing, Anita Hill Is 'Reimagining Equality'
/20 Yrs After Clarence Thomas Hearing, Anita Hill Is 'Reimagining Equality'
Anita Hill has a new book ‘Reimagining Equality’. A series of talks and seminars focused on the anniversary of the Clarence Thomas hearings for supreme court justice have returned Hill to the soft flow of the limelight, if not the harsh glow of cameras confronting her during her testimony about her experiences dealing with Thomas as his subordinate at the Education Department and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The hearings also changed the trajectory of Hill’s life. The questioning by the Senate Judiciary Committee, then a panel of white men, was “hurtful,” she said, and she does not believe a white woman would have met the same reception. But she also said she does not regret her involvement.
Anita Hill will be delivering the keynote address at New York’s Hunter College Oct. 15 conference ‘Sex, Power, and Speaking Truth: Anita Hill 20 Years Later.’
Many women like myself who watched the Anita Hill interrogation in horror — by a panel of only white men — were stunned by their questions and know that the Daily Beast article is not an exaggeration.

Gates and UK pledge $2.3 billion for vaccines for poor Reuters
Billionaire Bill Gates and Britain pledged $2.3 billion at an international donor conference on Monday to fund vaccination programs to protect children in poor countries against diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this sobering photo of an aging, pensive Bill Gates speaks volumes to us. Many of us are concerned that time is running out on key challenges of our time. More than once, Bill Gates has acknowledged that we just might not beat the clock.

Fort Wayne’s The Journal Gazette reports that about 30 supporters of Planned Parenthood of Indiana rallied Monday night, chanting ‘Mister, Mister, get your hands off my sister.’ Many motorists honked in support, and a few gave the the protesters ‘the finger’.

/Republican War on Women | Without Facts, Lie, Distort, & Mock Women's Rights
After watching this video on YouTube , of Howie Rich training Tea Party goes in guerrilla Internet tactics like giving Liberal books a 1-star rating on Amazon and Conservative ones a 5-star — even though they haven’t read either book, Senator Jon Kyl’s strategy of lying on the Senate floor about Planned Parenthood services comes right out of this Tea Party activist guide.
Howie Rich pretty much tells Tea Party people to do what is required to destroy the enemy (that would be me). Educating Americans factually is not part of their goal. Smear the opposition — which is a classic Eugene McCarthy tactic — is embraced by the Tea Party, then leveraged by the Republican War on Women by Senator Jon Kyl on the Senate floor.
Planned Parenthood-Government Shutdown Update
/RedTracker | The future of Planned Parenthood, an organization 90 years old, is held in the hands of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Mormon who personally opposes abortion and has previously run ads expressing his anti-abortion stance.
“On 97 percent of our work, Sen. Reid and Planned Parenthood are completely together,” Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, told POLITICO.
House Republican said this afternoon that the fight is not over abortion, without using the abortion word.
Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, calling herself “a pro-choice Republican from California,” said the shutdown fight is “about three things: spending, more spending and too much spending.”
Fox News women agree that there would be no shutdown if more women were in Congress.
Culture Wars | Beyonce's Face Paint | Amanda Platell On Fashion Misogyny
/Jezebel on Beyonce | Mark Pillai | African Queen | L’Officiel Paris March 2011 AOC BBC
Anne doesn’t know what to make of Jezebel’s Dodai Stewart skewering Beyonce for wearing a painted face in her new editorial for L’Officiel Paris’ March 2011 issue celebrating African Queen.
Stylelite is downright condescending, writing ‘The magazine that convinced singer Beyonce Knowles to paint her skin a darker shade of brown for a photo shoot says she wasn’t in blackface, but in ritualistic African face covering.’
The politically correct American blogosphere doesn’t even give a grown woman like Beyonce — more successful than all of us wrapped up together — credit for having her own mind in a fashion shoot. Now that’s equally politically incorrect in our view. Hmmm.
Did a white woman write that comment? Rubbish! This entire fiasco is one more reminder that Americans are culturally provincial beyond description.
Is Gawker Dialing for Traffic?
There is the possibility that Gawker’s plunging web traffic is behind the story. Jezebel and all of Gawker’s other blogs have lost enormous traffic with their new website design — which is terrible in our opinion.
On February 18th, Tech Crunch wrote that traffic had nosedived from a high of 561,000 to 257,000, citing Quantcast data. Gizmdo’s numbers declined from 746,000 to 420,000. (Note: the format is obviously being changed today.)
Maybe Nick Denton asked writers to juice up their posts in a big way. Watever the reason, Anne believes the entire controversy is nonsense.
Fashion Misogyny | Is It Real?
What isn’t nonsense is Amanda Platell’s accusation that the fashion industry is misogynistic. In an articulate, biting essay for Daily Mail, Platell writes that fashion’s obsession with Andrek Pejic is the final nail in the coffin of an industry that has transformed the ideal female body into a rail thin, breastless, hipless cariacature of the female body.
Simply stated, writes Amanda, many fashion designers wish women would just go away — except for buying their clothes, of course.
Anne has shared her same concerns on this topic but links Amanda Platell’s observations into the larger cultural landscape of trying to control women’s bodies in America. She includes Alexander McQueen’s forniphilia table — women as furniture — and the new revelations that he called Eva Herzigova a f*cking b*tch, screaming at her in a fashion show moment.
Indeed, fashion has a complex relationship with women’s bodies, female sexuality and empowerment, a common theme at AOC.

Gucci Brand's Deep Commitment to Women In Need
/Digging deeper into the Gucci website, we discover a wide range of involvement with young people around the world. The luxury brand supports China Children & Teenagers Fund. And now for the AOC jackpot.
PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights
Gucci is part of the PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights, replacing the former SolidarCité. The foundation is tied to PPR, the French multinational founded by François Pinault and now run by his son François-Henri Pinault.
PPR sold its French Printemps store in 2006 and is now focused on Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Sergio Rossi, Boucheron, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen (50%) and Stella McCartney (50%), as well as other brands and mail order companies.
The Foundation for Women’s Dignity & Rights is involved in so many global initiatives for women that we can’t list them. The projects aren’t sexy: genital mutilation, forced child marriage, honour killings, sex trafficking.
In my experience, most American brands shudder at the thoughts of articulating these concerns in the same sentence as their brand names.
