Adwoa Aboah Named One Of 10 Next Generation Leaders By TIME Magazine

Adwoa Aboah Named One Of 10 Next Generation Leaders By TIME Magazine

Activist and model Adwoa Aboah is one of 10 rising activists, artists and athletes covering TIME Magazine as Next Generation Leaders, just another major achievement for a hard-working young woman with plenty of talent, a strong individualist bent, and a commitment to women and girls worldwide.

Growing up in London, Aboah, whose father is Ghanian, says she thought the fashion industry “had no room” for girls like her. Now she’s redefining what’s in vogue. “I put so many limitations on myself,” Adwoa says. “Now I set absolutely no boundaries.”  Reality is that Aboah was right about the fashion industry, but today she is a leader in change so pervasive, that I can't imagine turning back the clock to fashion models being primarily a white girls club. Of course, I never believed America would elect Donald Trump president either, so what do I know!!!

AOC has narrated Aboah's personal history multiple times. What we love the most about her is her activism and fierce feminism. TIME writes:

Cara Delevingne Wears Dior Confessional Dress & Purple Hair For Suffering, Royalty & Resurrection To Met Gala

Cara Delevingne Wears Dior Confessional Dress & Purple Hair For Suffering, Royalty & Resurrection To Met Gala

The always relevant Cara Delevigne made bold beauty and gown choices for Monday night's Manhattan Met Gala's 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination'.  Allure notes that the actor and model's purple hair color is very relevant in the context of Catholicism.

According to Delevingne's hair stylist Mara Foszak,  "violet is a symbolic color for Catholics; it's associated with mourning, the suffering of the crucifixion, royalty, and Christ's resurrection and sovereignty,"

Adwoa Aboah Heads To Ghana With Juergen Teller For Burberry Meetup With Aboah Clan Women

Adwoa Aboah Heads To Ghana With Juergen Teller For Burberry Meetup With Aboah Clan Women AOC Eye

Model of the moment Adwoa Aboah heads to Ghana with Juergen Teller and friend British model Sonny Hall for the third part of her Burberry campaign. The first chapter was photographed in London, where Adwoa was born. The second part was shot in New York, where Adwoa lives now. And now the activist model is in Ghana, where her father, Charles Aboah, was raised.

"I tried very hard not to be too emotional about this trip, but it’s so special for everyone to see where the story started. To be in Ghana means coming home. I’ve been able to bring close friends of mine here, and my grandma and my family have had a taste of what the other part of my life is like," Adwoa explained to British Vogue.

Particularly smile-worthy is the image of Adwoa with her Ghanian relatives, including her grandmother Gladys Aboah, great-auntie Mary Asare, cousin Kensemaa Aboah and her auntie Tina (Ernestina Aboah), who also designed one-off outfits made from the Burberry Vintage check especially for the occasion.

Adwoa is interviewed by Brennan Kilbane about her nonprofit, Gurls Talk, an initiative that is the product of her own story -- one of healing, trauma, crazy success, and manic nosedives. Without a doubt, Adwoa Aboah is the star of a new era type of supermodel, a beautiful womanly color mix of brains and bravura who is in high demand as a model with beauty, heart and individuality.

As a teenager, Adwoa experimented heavily with drugs. Her addictions intensified as her career hit high-gear with her Italian Vogue cover. A few months earlier, the 'it girl' had attempted suicide.

Kilbane describes her subject as an "engaged, thoughtful, powerful woman" who makes her understand that solidarity is the antidote for the world we live in today. Adoah points to a tattoo on her wrists, a line from the poet Nayyirah Waheed’s book Nejma: “All the women. in me. are tired.” “I’m made up of many different women — my mum, sister, friends — who have all made me who I am. It reminds me that whatever I’m going through, there are lots of other women going through the same thing.”

Arcosanti, born in 1970, continues to evolve as an experiential learning center, walk-through demonstration of how to pursue efficient 'lean' alternatives to urban sprawl. Conceived by Paolo Soleri'sconcept of compact city design, ARCOLOGY(ARChitecture and ecOLOGY) saves resources and improves quality of life for all.

Ever the thinker, Miuccia Prada launches Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2018 'Return to Arcosanti' ad campaign featuring actor Elle Fanning and top models Adwoa Aboah, Cameron Russell, Edie Campbell, Faith Lynch, Olivia Anakwe, Oumie Jammeh and Rianne Van Rompaey. Styled by Katie Grand with creative direction by Giovanni Bianco, photographer Alasdair McLellan captures this utopian future 70 miles north of Phoenix.

Led by the Cosanti Foundation Board of Directors, I note rather sadly that only one woman serves on this board of nine talented creatives envisioning our collective future.

Artisan handcrafted jewelry brand John Hardy, founded in Bali in 1975, debuted 'Made for Legends in October 2017, as a new creative platform celebrating the personal power of femininity through the bold philosophy of wearing jewelry to express, to empower, and most of all, to honor the unstoppable potential of the self.

Those are lofty words but both Adwoa Aboah and Julianne Moore are activists as well as professionals practicing their crafts.

For her first collection for John Hardy, designer Hollie Bonneville Barden, the first woman to take the house’s creative reigns, reimagined the classic Naga motif. Barden relocated to New York and Bali from London, where she was the creative director of De Beers.

Juergen Teller Captures Adwoa Aboah, Family & Friends For Burberry's Zeitgeist Images

British model Adwoa Aboah skyrockets into another rung of fashion industry achievement, teaming up with photographer Juergen Teller in a new photo collaboration for Burberry. The images will drop throughout 2018 and feature Aboah together with her friends and family. In almost USA southern tradition, we meet Adwoa's including her cousins Alfie Husband, George Husband, Richard Theodore-Aboah and Kwame N’Dow, as well as Montell Martin and Mae Muller. The group occupies a park bench along Regent’s Canal in North London, wearing pieces from the brand's new collection, which will be available to buy from January.

Juergen Teller's work is popping up everywhere right now, with his trademark vision of scraping off glossy fashion veneer. Last night AOC featured The Cut's luxury jewelry and accessory baubles arranged in a first cousin of flower-arranging style Ikebana -- a look writer Stella Bugbee calls 'Freakebana'.

Perhaps I'm spending way too much time watching 'The Crown' in the age of Trump -- against the backdrop of Charlottesville and Harvey Weinstein. Writing for T Magazine, Deborah Needleman spoke of Ikebana's contemporary appeal to “its direct and personal connection to nature, its awareness of and emphasis on decay in an era in which our own ecological and environmental ruin feels more vivid than ever.”

There is something quite deep going on here, in these new Burberry images, in the shakeup at British Vogue and the rise of Edward Enninful as editor-in-chief.
