/Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, known as Mert & Marcus, are top fashion photographers celebrated for their bold and provocative style. The duo remains very busy and relevant in fashion world in 2023, 15 years after their collaboration with W Magazine in 2008 for the editorial ‘Hammam’, featuring Kate MoKate Moss and Mert & Marcus at Charleston for British Vogue 2021
AOC revisited this 2008 Kate Moss by Mert & Marcus editorial Saturday for refreshing with large images, after The Guardian linked into AOC’s 2021 feature on ‘Charleston’ in Sussex, England. Kate was photographed by Mert & Marcus wearing Fendi Couture for British Vogue.
‘Charleston’ was home to the Bloombury set of writers, artists and members of the creatives set in England. /Supermodel Imaan Hammam takes two covers for the August 2023 issue of ELLE USA. Imaan wears bralette and earrings from Fendi Couture above with a corset from New York Vintage. The second cover below features Imaan wearing an Armani Prive black gown with Van Cleef & Arpels necklace.
Leah Faye Cooper interviews Hammam in her Brooklyn apartment during Ramadan, explaining how 2023 is a year for her to connect more deeply with her Muslim faith. Imaan is not only fasting by day but also not working.
The very top model became an Estée Lauder Global Brand Ambassador in May, and she reports fainting on the set during Ramadan 2022. “They’d be having you doing so much on these shoots, girl. It’s like dancing, jumping around, running—and then there’s a room for TikTok, doing all these TikTok videos….”

Kaia Gerber has never been “model light” in her interviews. Hyland asks her multiple times about her mental health — like don’t we ask every multi-million $$$$ model today about her mental health?
Kaia shrugs it off with a smile — the smile of plenty of loving, hard work on Kaia — not to fix herself or those around her. But to engage with and gain a young person’s understanding of life around her.
There’s really a lot to like about this young woman. REALLY a lot to like. ~ Anne

Mega talent Selena Gomez covers the September 2021 issue of ELLE US September 2021./ Photographers Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin [IG] capture ‘The Return of Selena with styling by Alex White./ Hair by Orlando White; hair by Orlando Pita
I wonder how Gomez feels about the intro to her cover story ‘The Return of Selena’ by Carina Chocano. The star may have a whole new vibe in these Inez and Vinoodh photographs but ELLE grounds her mostly in the past.
ELLE’s sub-headline: “After years battling health issues and heartbreak, Selena Gomez opens up about mental illness, her new Hulu series and not knowing her own Instagram password.”
Actually, Selena Gomez states the obvious about herself, with a far more timely and not narcissistic narrative. We’ve read about Gomez’s mental illness for years.. Given the times in which we are living, why not promote Selena’s message about herself, rather than rehashed, old-news editorial, click-bait.
Just because Google prioritizes Selena’s challenges with mental illness doesn’t mean we can’t give her a major update with our words. It’s not easy for people like Selena to move past prior challenges that would have brought down most of us — including ELLE’s headline writer.
“My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks—these were all things that honestly should have taken me down,” she says. Gomez speaks slowly and calmly, in a surprisingly low and uninflected register. “Every time I went through something, I was like, ‘What else? What else am I going to have to deal with?’ ” “ ‘You’re going to help people,’ ” she told herself. “That’s really what kept me going. There could have been a time when I wasn’t strong enough, and would have done something to hurt myself.”
We can all use some positivity, and Selena Gomez delivers it.
