Kate Winslet Says No Photoshop With Lancome, Talking Hollywood Pay Gap Is Vulgar & Social Media Promotes Anorexia In Young Women
/Actor Kate Winslet says being 40 is great . . . so totally fab that she has a no retouching allowed in her photographs as a beauty spokesperson for Lancome. Winslet explained to E Online:
No Retouching In L'Oréal Lancome Contract
"I can only ever speak for myself and I can only ever do things that are important to me and it's a hope that other people might follow suit but it does feel important to me because I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women,"
Saying that she has no desire to look "stoned" in her photos, Winslet believes that younger women do consciously -- or unconsciously look to successful women as role models. I would always want to be telling the truth about who I am to that generation because they've got to have strong leaders. We're all responsible for raising strong young women, so these are things that are important to me."
To insure that her pov is honored, Winslet says there is a stipulation in her L'Oréal contract that prohibits additional editing of her appearance in Lancome ads.
Winslet Weighs In On Apple Devices & Social Media
Kate Winslet is basking in rave reviews for her role as Joanna Hoffman in the current movie about Apple founder Steve Jobs. This role didn't keep the outspoken actor from sharing her major concerns about the ubiquitous impact of social media and Apple devices on today's young women.
Arguing that the entire social media world is designed to create -- intentionally or otherwise -- eating disorders, Winslet says there is no social media in our house. Saying that social media makes her blood boil, the star of upcoming Dressmaker says today's young girls, in particular, are obsessed with getting people to like them via social media.
People are brutally honest online and hypercritical, young people most of all. Playing the role of Apple's Joanna Hoffman, Winslet dressed frumpy.
Speaking about her children's inability to sugarcoat their thoughts, the 40-year-old actress recalled: 'I remember my son and daughter coming to the set for the first time and seeing what I actually looked like in the Steve Jobs film and Joe was like, "Woo mum, you look really bad...woo mum"'. Then her teen daughter chimed in with "That cardigan makes your bum look absolutely massive!"

Kate Winslet in 'The Dressmaker'
Winslet's daughter Mia Honey -- her child with Jim Threapleton -- was 'very jealous' about her semi-naked screen time with Australian actor Liam Hemsworth in 'The Dressmaker'. The trailer for The Dressmaker is so fascinating on the power of clothes and style.
The film is an Australian revenge comedy drama film directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, based on the novel of the same name, written by Raslie Ham. Winslet is all femme fatale in her tole of 'Tilly' Dunnage, a smart set woman with a treacherous past -- or so the locals believe -- who returns to a small Australian town to take care of her ill, mentally unstable mother.
Gender Pay Gap in Hollywood
Where Kate Winslet's very outspoken voice goes suddenly silent is on the topic of money and Hollywood's very public battle over the pay gap among male and female actors who are equal box office draws. "I'm having such a problem with these conversations," Winslet said to BBC Newsbeat. "I understand why they are coming up but maybe it's a British thing. I don't like talking about money; it's a big vulgar isn't it?"
Winslet denies that she's ever received any sexist treatment in her career.
