The Beautiful Tiiu Kuik | Not My Desired Body Image
/
On Jan 29, 2010 I stopped by one of my fav fashion editorial blogs Fashion Gone Rogue, for a look at their photos of Estonian model Tiiu Kuik wearing body creme for Amica.
I wrote then:
The photos by Ishi are positively gorgeous. I’ll make no comment on Tiiu Kuik’s exquisitely boyish BMI, except to repeat what I’ve written about Ralph Lauren’s photoshop disaster. I can appreciate a beautiful woman, but I in my life I never aspired to look like this. Just speaking for myself, of course.
Today, we see Tiiu Kuik naked, with a gorgeous photo editorial by Daemian Smith & Christine Suarez posted at Sensuality News.
At the risk of being called a ‘potato-chip eating moma’ by Karl Lagerfeld, I repeat that I’ve never in my life aspired to look like this, and I can honestly say that no man in my life has ever wanted me to look like this either — except one, the Southern brahmin who said he would marry me at 120 pounds.
He knew he was safe.
It’s critical that women begin to define our own individual vision of our best beauty. It can’t be dictated by Karl Lagerfeld or Crystal Renn or Anna Wintour. Each woman must face herself in the mirror and decide how she likes herself the best.
For me a sensual robustness is a physical must-have, and so I’m proud to say that I don’t look like Tiiu Kuik, who photographs beautifully but in no way represents my personal standard of beauty. This may be what fashion wants, but it’s not how I choose to celebrate my body — not ever. Anne
