Was Long-time Hillary Supporter Julia Roberts Waiting on Keystone For Allure Endorsement?
/Julia Roberts & Hillary Clinton Support Clean Cookstoves
Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts talks politics with Allure Magazine's October issue. Julia is lensed by Tom Munro.
Of course Roberts was asked about her relationship and support for 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The two women have a long history of working together on multiple fronts, including Roberts serving as a global ambassador for Clinton's Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. In 2011, Clinton and Roberts co-authored a USA Today Mother's Day Op-Ed 'Clean stoves' would save lives, cut pollution.
On average, women and girls in developing countries spend up to 20 hours a week searching for fuel — time they could spend going to school, running a business, or raising their families. And if they live in areas of conflict, leaving home to search for fuel puts them at great risk of assault or rape.
All of this presents a major challenge — but it can be solved. If we can get cleaner, more efficient cookstoves in wider use throughout the developing world, we can save lives, cut back on carbon emissions, and create new economic opportunities for millions of women.
Fortunately, the technology for clean cookstoves already exists. Several companies are already producing them, and countries like India, China, and Mexico have begun to introduce them in national programs. But the uptake has been slow, because there hasn't been a widescale effort to coordinate these efforts, or to make the stoves affordable in the developing world.
Hillary Is A 'Hero' To Julia Roberts
In a November 2013 interview with Marie Claire, Julia Roberts said that Hillary Clinton had "become a hero" to her. Stressing then her interest in philanthropy and activism, Roberts noted her affiliation with one of AOC's favorite organizations 'Chime for Change', co-founded by Beyonce Knowles and Salma Hayek.
We want to report that Julia Roberts has officially thrown her support behind Hillary Clinton in the October Allure interview, but she didn't.
"It's a tricky little topic," Roberts told Allure, when asked about her support of Hillary. "For me, as a woman in this world with a family and a job . . . not that I think she would be a 'president for women,' but I think her point of view is critical in this time when we are 51 percent of the population, and somehow the paradigm shift isn't really happening. I would love to see more of what she has to offer in service to this country."
Julia Roberts Environmentalist
AOC speculates that Roberts was caught in an environmental snare at the time her Allure Interview was written. Julia is an ardent environmentalist who is most recently the newest voice behind the Nature Is Speaking movement. Roberts is Mother Nature herself. A Google search of Julia Roberts and Bernie Sanders comes up empty-handed.
Now that Hillary Clinton has spoken out against drilling in the Arctic and also the Keystone Pipeline, it seems that Roberts is freer to endorse. What is not well-known and got virtually no coverage in the pervasive anti-Clinton press that populates the DC media -- including MSNBC -- documents have surfaced showing that before Hillary Clinton left the State department, she recommended AGAINST Keystone. It appears that her desire not to embarrass the Obama Administration was a legitimate excuse.
