Performing For Us | Marina Abramović Artists

Last week we encouraged readers to explore MOMA’s three-month ‘Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present’(now closed) from the perspective of Deborah Wing-Sproul, one of the artists employed to exist for the purpose of audience observation at the provocative, audience-engaging, performance-art show.

Two videos today tell the story from Marina Abramovićs point of view. The first is a MOMA interview that focuses on the dynamics of the installation and artistic process.

Performance vs. Acting: Marina Abramovic, Klaus Biesenbach and James Franco at MOMA

The second NYTimes T-Magazine video is even more interesting to us, because it focuses on the requirement that the performance artists (Deborah Wing-Sproul for one) get out of their own spaces. Sing-Sproul writes about her weekend at Abramović’s home, to prepare for the show.

The video tells the same story from Marina Abramović’s point of view.
