Chris Matthews 'Million Man March' Twists Translation of 'March of Millions'

I wrote last night that American media is ignoring the reality that women are protesting and are very involved in Egypt.

Just now, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews labeled tomorrow’s protest in Egypt the “Million Man March”. His reporter on the ground managed to use gender neutral language in response.

Recently we wrote that Christ Matthews asked when an American man will create the next Sputnik moment. His language is despicable, and I can’t believe he gets away with a total ignoring of female gender.

This argument with Chris Matthews and women’s rights activists has gone on for years. Does MSNBC tell him to clean up his act? No.

Let’s see what Al Jazeera has to say about the march. I just wrote about Al Jazeera not being broadcast in America, although we use their website frequently.

Al Jazeera writes in “Egypt army vows not to use force”:

The Egyptian army has said it would not use force against citizens staging protests to force President Hosni Mubarak to step down

In a statement on Monday it said “freedom of expression” was guaranteed to all citizens using peaceful means.

It was the first such explicit confirmation by the army that it would not fire at demonstrators who have taken to the streets of Egypt and comes a day before before Tuesday’s “march of millions” to mark the seventh day of the protests as anti-government sentiment reaches fever pitch.

This is exactly why I go to Al Jazeera for verification or another view. Chris Matthews calls tomorrow’s march the “Million Man March”. Al Jazeera calls the march the “march of millions”.

I rest my case about the blatent paternalism of American media. To add insult to injury, NBC’s Brian Williams is on the ground in Egypt and just interviewed by Matthews.

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has called the march “the march of millions”.

Will Chris Matthews clean up his verbal act or will he continue to ignore the fact that women are very much a part of the fight for democracy in Egypt?

Honest to God, I have had it with Chris Matthews and his refusal to acknowledge that women in any country of the world are active contributors to society.

Why does MSNBC let Chris Matthews get away with factually changing the name of an Egyptian protest movement to suit his own sexist gender lens? Perhaps it’s time for Comcast to dump Chris Matthews right along with Keith Oberman.

Let’s get some civilized people on TV. As much as I dislike Michele Bachmann’s political platform, I do not appreciate listening to Chris Matthews scream “bubblehead” over and over, in describing Bachmann.

Perfect timing. My Canadian feminist friend just sent me an interview with leading Egyptian Feminist, Nawal El Saadawi: “Women and Girls Are Besides Boys in the Streets”.

We update our images of women fighting for freedom in Egypt.

Because men like Chris Matthews are rewriting the fight for the liberation of Egypt in his own sexist, paternalistic language, thankfully we have the new Women of Egypt project to help us create a digital record of women’s active role in the Egyptian protests.

We will review global coverage on the role of Egyptian women in the protests, comparing them to the gender-biased American media. I suggest you tune in to Al Jazeera on the web. Anne
