The benefits tend to come for the entire company, writes The Washington Post. For Mark Madigan, CEO of software engineering firm IT Cadre, ‘smart moms’ are now 10 percent of his workforce.
Flexibility usually comes with tradeoffs in benefits, long-term job security and promotions. The benefits are that busy moms take control of their schedules and — most important to them — they are doing very interesting work that can build credentials on a resume.
Studies show that new mothers with MBAs abandon the workforce at levels higher than other advanced degrees. These new placement firms arrange ‘telecommuting time for lawyers, work-from-home days for consultants or part-time for project managers that end when the school bus arrives.’
