Brantley suggests Stella not only reigns bigger than life in Cate Blanchet’s “Desire” world but, Liv Ullman’s direction strikes a gusher or an oil well. Finally tapping formidably into the complexity of Blanche’s female mind, Blanchett and Ullman deliver gold, not the black, sticky stuff we’re used to with Blanche.
