Abbey Lee Kershaw 2008 Editorials: 'Bad Kid' by Greg Kadel in Numéro France March
/One of Australia’s most famous models, musicians and now an actor is Abbey Lee [Kershaw], who covers the September 2025 issue of Vogue Australia. Her interview sent AOC deep into the archives in search of Abbey Lee’s earliest fashion industry works.
What hits you like a bullseye is the astonishing rollout that the Aussie rebel born in Melbourne on June 12, 1987 generated in fashion print media. Note that Abbey Lee was not 14 years old and living on the street, when she landed this fashion story ‘Bad Kid’, published in the March 2008 issue of Numéro France.
She just looks very young — which fashion world preferred — and photographer Greg Kadel was happy to accommodate.
The new girl’s fashion story 2008 rollout also featured her in [thanks Models.com]:
‘DRY Season by Craig McDean in W Magazine January 2008
‘The End of Innocence by Greg Kadel in Numéro France March 2008
‘So Stylish’ by Craig McDean in Vogue Italia September 2008
‘Do You Know What I Think About Alot’ by Jason Kibbler in 10 Magazine FW 2008
This Will End In Tears’ by Regan Cameron in Numero Tokyo October 2008
‘Ascension’ by Nick Knight in Dazed Magazine October 2008
‘It’s All I Ever Wanted’ by Alasdair McLellan in i-D Magazine November 2008
‘American Dreamin’ by Inez and Vinoodh in W Magazine December 2008
‘Viva Vacation’ by Mario Sorrenti in Vogue Italia December 2008
AOC’s 2008 archives are slim. Founded in the summer of 2007, Anne didn’t pursue the intersection of fashion with politics, activism and religion until 2010.
Another part of our RENEW project is adding key fashion stories that remain very current.
Speaking of religion, another early for us Abbey Lee fashion story was her 2011 ‘Heroines’, lensed by Sebastian Kim for Numéro 126.
Even in 2011, Anne was crabbing about calling women icons after two years in the business. It’s worse than ever today in 2025.
As for Abbie Lee, she never struggles with irreverence, which is a big reason to love her.
