Supermodel, humanitarian, global citizen, adoring wife and mother Doutzen Kroes covers the June 13, 2019 issue of Madame Figaro France. Xavi Gordo captures the Piaget jewelry ambassador and one of the world’s most famous elephant conservation activists interviewed by Marilyne Letertre in Saint-Raphaël, in the south of France. Like Gisele Bundchen, Doutzen is a strong environmental advocate and equally concerned about her two young children with DJ Sunnery James. Son Lhyllon is now 8yrs old, and daughter Myllena is 5. The family now lives in the Netherlands, although they spend much time in New York and Miami.

An Environmentalist By Example, Not Only Words

"When my daughter was born, we wanted to get closer to our roots, to offer our children the same education as ours, without taboos, and in a healthy living environment close to nature.,” Doutzen explains.

Her parents were eco-friendly, introducing her to Greenpeace and WWF when she was young. The couple is currently building an eco-responsible country house, and Doutzen is quick to quote the young climate activist Greta Thunberg.

"I believe in exemplarity more than in sermons," she adds. And in all areas. "At home, she disconnects completely from 17 hours to 20 hours, during the peak hour of her life as a mother. "My children need to understand that the human relationship is more rewarding than the technological link. With my husband, we also share tasks, we keep them in turn according to our professional agendas and we always speak with respect. I was raised according to egalitarian principles that I try to pass on to my son and my daughter. A #MeToo Advocate

On the subject of #MeToo, Doutzen Kroes is a supporter, but she acknowledges that even the most irreproachable men do not know how to behave anymore around women. In her words “fear and vigilance kill spontaneity.” This is an unfortunate situation , but these “extremes” may be temporarily necessary for profound change to occur between the sexes.

Doutzen Kroes is a strong advocate for diversity in fashion. "Everyone must be represented and heard, regardless of their sexual orientation, identity or skin color. My children are Métis, and I want them to access the same opportunities as anyone. “

Still, Doutzen knows that she is privileged and even talking about certain problems with understanding is difficult, given her privileged status.

"It's always difficult to talk about battles to be fought in my position. But, I prefer to lend my voice to those who do not have it rather than doing nothing,” she says in summary of her priorities and world view.
