Naomi Campbell Taps Humanity's Origins in Dazed Magazine 'Celebration' Issue 2025
Supermodel Naomi Campbell takes one cover of Dazed Magazine’s [IG] Summer 2025 issue, the last one under the editorial vision of IB Kamara, who also photographs Naomi.
The glorious Naomi Campbell channels humanity’s oldest African origins and self-adornment using beads, shells and hair collages made of twigs, real flowers, leaves and even stones and butterflies that honor the deep ties between humans and nature.
Transit In and Out of Africa Was Not a One-Way Ticket
No discovery has unseated the region of Lake Turkana, which includes the Omo Valley of southern Ethiopia and the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, as the route humans took out of Africa into the Levant.
AOC readers understand the attempts by white nationalists to press the case for a superior group of humans who came from the north, eventually reaching the Levant themselves. Anne has a personal mission to follow this argument very closely.

After sharing critical new DNA info on Africans carrying Neanderthal DNA at much higher levels than previously tested [blowing out the white men from the north theory], AOC moves to recent DNA analysis that proves as high as 30% shared DNA between Palestinian and Jewish men with ancestors living together as Bronze Age Canaanites.

In this high-aesthetic fashion story from the November 2023 issue of Vogue Korea, the iconic British supermodel Naomi Campbell is styled by Eunyoung Sohn in a Louis Vuitton exclusive fashion story, photographed by Cho Gi-seok.
The supermodel will be the subject of the next fashion exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. the exhibition called ‘Naomi’ will follow the current exhibition dedicated to Coco Chanel. The show will open on June 22, 2024 and run until April 6, 2025 as a broad survey of Naomi’s most memorable fashion moments and also the designers who helped shape her career.
The new VS campaign is excellent and has some real VS icons featured. Bringing back past VS models is a terrific idea for a brand trying to find safe ground to stand on. Shop the new collection at the VS website.
If I read the VS copy carefully, I’m sure we are all icons somewhere in it, so let’s just cut the AOC analysis short here and say “good job, VS.”

American Vogue’s May 2023 issue pays tribute to Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, one of fashion’s greatest talents. Lagerfeld is the focus of the upcoming retrospective at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and annual fundraiser hosted by Anna Wintour and referred to as The Met Gala 2023, scheduled for Monday May 1, 2023.
Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s brilliant curator has titled the new exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” a reference to the painter William Hogarth. The artist believed that an ever-turning, ever-changing line captures more energy and life than a straight one. This idea was conceptually embedded in nature by Hogarth and other artists and intellectuals discuss this concept. More than one of them referenced the serpeant as an ideal symbol.
Lagerfeld’s career spanned appointments at Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous brand.
For the cover, Vogue photographer Annie Leibovitz [IG] photographed 10 muses, women who are part of a larger group of models adored by Karl Lagerfeld.
Models include Adut Akech, Amber Valletta, Anok Yai, Devon Aoki, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Liu Wen, Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova and Shalom Harlow, pose in the creations of other designers paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld with the fashion itself and also words.

“The second time that I ever travelled alone in my life [to India], I went to Trivandrum,” Naomi reveals to Shriya Zamindar. “I went there by myself in 2012 to learn about yoga. I saw yoga being done in all these different ways, for different purposes. But I specifically wanted to know how to find this triangle of peace,” she says to the photo shoot team. “I wanted to go to the source and teach myself. I stayed there for a month and put my phone in the safe. There were only two people who knew how to contact me. I immersed myself in the experience and I loved it.”
Naomi Campbell’s mission in India has taken on a new focus. “I just launched my new initiative, EMERGE, in Qatar and we’re looking to bring it to India. It highlights young creatives and gives them a platform so that the world gets to see them,” she explains. “The concept is to invest in them and bring them to London and Milan, mixing them in where they should be. It’s about highlighting their work which doesn’t get highlighted.”
Update 1/11/2023: AOC has written multiple times about Peter Lindbergh’s famous supermodel shoot for British Vogue and its hallmark relevance in inspiring the George Michael ‘Freedom 90’ video. Cindy Crawford shared the video on Instagram three years ago. Prior to that we moved it to the front of the fashion channel on December 25, 2016, with the passing of George Michael.
Regretfully, we again move the video to the front of our channel with the passing of Tatjana Patitz — the super who marched to her own melody. Losing acclaimed photographer Peter Lindbergh — Tatjana’s fashion godfather — on September 3, 2019 was such a gut punch. Today’s news is another ember on a fire of uber-talented people who have left planet Earth long before we were ready to leave them.
